Ahmed Dhouib was a little-known jihadi from the Tunisian city of Sousse. As a young man, he went to the Philippines to study chemistry. Dhouib married a local woman and briefly operated a fast-food restaurant in the country before returning home with his wife.1 The couple lived in the Ariana governorate but soon joined the Soldiers of the Caliphate in Tunisia [JaKI; Jund al-Khilafa fi-Ifriqiya] in the late 2010s.2 Dhouib and his wife linked up with JaKI fighters holed up in the mountain ranges of the Kasserine governorate with their two young children. His role in the outfit was unclear, but Tunisian authorities considered him to be a senior operative.3

On Apr. 01, 2020, the army eliminated Dhouib during an operation.4 During the encounter, his wife blew herself up while holding a baby in her arms.5 None of the soldiers were hurt in the blast but the infant was killed. The couple’s three-year-old daughter was injured in the explosion.6 At the time of Dhouib’s death, he and his wife were planning to carry out a double suicide bomb attack against an unspecified target in the town of Kasserine.7
