Ashraf Guizani (°1991) is a Tunisian jihadi who was appointed as the leader of the Soldiers of the Caliphate in Tunisia [JaKI; Jund al-Khilafa fi-Ifriqiya] in the summer of 2019 following the death of his predecessor Houssem Thelithi earlier in March.1 He previously served on the organization’s leadership council.2 The Tunisian authorities issued public search announcements for him in October 2018 and May 2019.3

Under Guizani’s command, the JaKI tries to maintain its jihadi campaign. The outfit has been responsible for minor attacks against security forces in the Tunisian highlands.4 The JaKI was also tied to the September 2020 knife attack in Sousse that left one paramilitary policeman dead.5 On Dec. 11, 2020, Guizani was designated as an international terrorist by the American government.6
