Mohammed Basdouri (°1982) was a militant from the Tunisian town of Sidi Ali Ben Aoun. He and his brother joined the Brigade of Uqba Bin Nafa’a [KUIN; Katibat Uqba Ibn Nafaâ] in 2013.1 He took part in several high-profile attacks, including the Oct. 23, 2013 ambush of an army unit in Sidi Ali Ben Aoun in which six troops died and the Jul. 16, 2014 killing of fifteen Tunisian soldiers on Mount Chaâmbi.2

Basdouri later defected to the Soldiers of the Caliphate in Tunisia [JaKI; Jund al-Khilafa fi-Ifriqiya].3 He became a key operative of the JaKI wing based on Mount Mghila. In the summer of 2015, the Tunisian authorities issued an alert for him.4 Basdouri was involved in several attacks against the security forces as well as the abduction and killing of two shepherds on the mountain.5 By the late 2010s, the Basdouri brothers began to operate increasingly independent of the JaKI’s leadership.6 Police eventually caught up with them and raided their hideout near Sidi Ali Ben Aoun on May 04, 2019. Basdouri, his brother and an associate were eliminated in the operation.7
