Deadliest attacks against foreigners

  1. Jun. 26, 2015 – Port el-Kantaoui: 38 foreigners killed
    A terrorist fired at tourists lounging on a beach before rampaging through a resort hotel in the Port el-Kantaoui suburb of Sousse. The attacker killed 38 tourists and wounded 39 other people. The dead included thirty British nationals, three Irish citizens, two Germans, a Belgian, a Russian national and a visitor from Portugal. At least 25 Britons, eight Tunisians, three Belgians, a German national, a Russian and an Ukrainian citizen were wounded in the incident. The attacker was killed in retaliatory gunfire by policemen.   2. Mar. 18, 2015 – Tunis: 20 foreigners killed
    Gunmen fired at tourists visiting an antiquities museum in the Bardo suburb of Tunis, killing 21 foreigners and one local civilian. The dead included four Italians, four French citizens, three Japanese nationals, three Poles, two Spanish visitors, an Australian, a Belgian, a British citizen, a Colombian national and a Russian tourist. At least 46 people, including thirteen Italians, eleven Poles, seven French nationals, three Japanese visitors, a Belgian citizen, a South African and a Russian national, were wounded in the incident. The attack was followed by gun battles between the two terrorists and security forces in which a policeman was killed. Both militants were eliminated in the clashes.   3. Apr. 11, 2002 – Djerba: 16 foreigners killed
    A suicide terrorist detonated an explosives-laden fuel tanker truck bomb at a historic synagogue on the island of Djerba, in the Médenine governorate. Twenty people, including fourteen German tourists and two French nationals, were killed in the blast. More than thirty other people were hurt in the attack. Al-Qa’ida claimed responsibility for the attack. [AP & BBC]
