Militant Incidents in Tunisia (Jan. – Mar. 2016)

1. Jan. 01 – A group of about twenty militants raided and pillaged several homes near Mount Ballouta, in the Siliana governorate. No further information was available. [Jaw & TAP]
2. Jan. 03 – Militants clashed with Tunisian security forces conducting operations during a gun battle on Mount Ballouta, in the Siliana governorate. One terrorist was killed in the fighting. [Jaw & TAP]
3. Jan. 13 – A soldier was wounded in a landmine explosion during operations by the Tunisian army on Mount Ouergha, in the Kef governorate. [Jaw & TAP]
4. Jan. 19 – A house was pillaged by several militants near the town of Sebbala, in the Sidi Bouzid governorate. Nobody was hurt in the raid. [Jaw & TAP]
5. Jan. 21 – Thugs set fire to a police station during a riot in the town of Regueb, in the Sidi Bouzid governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [Jaw]
6. Jan. 21 – A police station was destroyed in an arson attack by a mob of thugs in the town of Souk Lahad, in the Kébili governorate. [Jaw]

11. Jan. 21 – Three customs agents sustained injuries when their vehicle crashed while thugs were pelting it with rocks on the outskirts of Kairouan. [Jaw]
12. Jan. 22 – A group of terrorists battled with Tunisian troops during a shootout on Mount Semmama, in the Kasserine governorate. No one was injured in the clash. [Jaw]
13. Jan. 24 – A band of militants clashed with a paramilitary police unit during a gun battle near Oum Laârayes, in the Gafsa governorate. Nobody was hurt in the encounter. [Jaw]
14. Feb. 06 – A paramilitary soldier was injured in gun battles between a group of militants and security forces conducting operations in Matmata, in the Gabès governorate. Three terrorists were eliminated in the fighting. [Jaw, Mos & TL]
15. Feb. 06 – A policeman was wounded when gunmen raked his car with gunfire as he drove home from work near Mount Salloum, in the Kasserine governorate. [TT]
16. Feb. 20 – Unknown assailants set fire to cars parked outside the studios of a television channel in Tunis, causing only minor damage. [Jaw]
17. Feb. 22 – An elderly civilian was killed after getting caught in the crossfire during a gun battle between terrorists and security forces near the town of Ghardimaou, in the Jendouba governorate. [TAP]
18. Feb. 27 – Unidentified gunmen fired shots at the car of a former member of parliament for the Islamist Ennahda party Fattoum Attia on a highway in the Ben Arous governorate. Nobody was hurt in the incident. [Jaw]
19. Mar. 02 – Militants battled with Tunisian security forces who raided the house in which they were holed up in the village of Aouija, in the Médenine governorate, killing one civilian and injuring a soldier. Five terrorists were eliminated in the encounter. [AFP, AP, Jaw, Mos, Reut & TAP]
20. Mar. 04 – Four houses were pillaged by approximately forty militants in the village of Douar Rahminia, in the Sidi Bouzid governorate. [Jaw, Mos, TAP & TT]
21. Mar. 07 – A band of approximately fifty DaISN militants simultaneously attacked army and police barracks in the city of Ben Guerdane, in the Médenine governorate, sparking a round of heavy gun battles with security forces in which six paramilitary troops, two policemen, one soldier and a customs agent were killed. A local leader of the nationalist NT party and seven civilians, including the parents of a paramilitary soldier, also died during the attacks. 22. Mar. 09 – One soldier was killed and a colleague was injured in a series of gun battles between groups of militants and Tunisian troops in and around the city of Ben Guerdane, in the Médenine government. 23. Mar. 10 – A group of militants opened fire at a military patrol in the city of Ben Guerdane, in the Médenine governorate. A woman was hurt after getting caught in the ensuing gun battle. One of the attackers was eliminated in the encounter. [Jaw & Mos]
24. Mar. 15 – Militants opened fire at a paramilitary police vehicle in the city of Ben Guerdane, in the Médenine governorate. Nobody was hurt in the shooting. [Jaw]
