Militant Incidents in Tunisia (Jul. – Sep. 2014)

1. Jul. 01 – A youth was killed in a landmine explosion as he was on his way to collect honey in the Wasaïa area of the Kasserine governorate. [Mos]
2. Jul. 02 – Four soldiers were killed in a landmine explosion while on taking part in military operations on Mount Ouergha, in the Kef governorate. [AP, Bab, Mos & TAP]
3. Jul. 05 – Militants belonging to the KAIM ransacked an office of the nationalist NT party in the town of Korbous, in the Nabeul governorate. [Mos]
4. Jul. 10 – A police station was attacked with a firebomb by Islamist thugs in the town of Kef. No one was hurt in the incident. [Mos]
5. Jul. 10 – Islamist thugs set fire to two vehicles belonging to municipal agencies in the town of Kef. Nobody was hurt in the attack. [Mos]
6. Jul. 11 – A local government office was set on fire by thugs during protests by residents opposing the opening of a landfill in the town of Guellala, in the Médenine governorate. [TAP]
7. Jul. 16 – A band of approximately sixty militants attacked two positions of the security forces with rocket-propelled grenades and gunfire on Mount Chaâmbi, in the Kasserine governorate. Fifteen soldiers were killed and eighteen colleagues were wounded in the attacks. One of the assailants was eliminated in retaliatory gunfire. 8. Jul. 19 – Gunmen opened fire at a military equestrian facility near Thala, in the governorate of Kasserine. No one was hurt in the incident. [Bab, Mos & TAP]
9. Jul. 22 – Militants opened fire at an army barracks in the Gafsa governorate, sparking a brief gun battle. No casualties were reported in the incident. [Mos]
10. Jul. 23 – A group of militants clashed with security forces during a firefight at an undisclosed location in the Kasserine governorate. Nobody was hurt in the clash. [Mos]

13. Jul. 29 – An attacker threw firebombs at a police station in the town of Sers, in the Kef governorate. A police chief was hurt in the incident. [Mos]
14. Jul. 29 – Three soldiers were wounded in a gun battle with a band of terrorists on Mount Semmama, in the Kasserine governorate. [Mos]
15. Jul. 31 – A group of terrorists clashed with security forces during a shootout in the village of Fouazaïa, in the Jendouba governorate. Nobody was hurt in the fighting. [Bab & Mos]

18. Aug. 03 – Gunmen attacked an army base and a police station in the town of Sbeitla, in the Kasserine governorate, killing one soldier and injuring a civilian. [Reut & TAP]
19. Aug. 04 – A soldier sustained injuries in a shootout between a group of militants and Tunisian troops on Mount Semmama, in the Kasserine governorate. [Mos & TAP]

21. Aug. 06 – A group of terrorists battled Tunisian troops during a firefight on Mount Hairech, in the Jendouba governorate. Nobody was injured in the encounter. [Mos]

23. Aug. 10 – The parked car of a police officer was set on fire by a group of unknown assailants in the city of Kef. [Bab & Mos]

26. Aug. 31 – Ten members of a Salafi Muslim religious organization were wounded when gunmen shot them in the town of Kasserine. [Mos]

28. Sep. 01 – Militants fired at a member of parliament at his residence in Zouhour, in the Kasserine governorate. The politician broke his leg as he fled the assailants. [AP & TAP]
29. Sep. 10 – Gunmen fired at security forces after they had arrested an Islamist militant in Douz, in the Kébili governorate. Two intelligence agents and a police officer were wounded in the incident. [Mos]
30. Sep. 15 – A soldier sustained injuries when several Salafi Islamist thugs assaulted him outside his home in Kairouan. [Mos]
