Overview of incidents

  1. Jan. 10 – Thugs set fire to a police station during protests against the poor economic situation in the town of Ben Guerdane, in the Médenine governorate. Several cars were also burnt. [Bab, Reut, TAP & TL]
  2. Jan. 12 – A well-known historic Sufi Muslim shrine was burnt by a group of Salafi Islamist assailants in northern Tunis. Nobody was hurt in the attack. [TL]
  3. Jan. 14 – A band of gunmen from Libya shot up a car close to the border near Faouar, in the Médenine governorate, killing a Tunisian civilian and injuring another one. [TAP]
  4. Jan. 17 – Gunmen from Libya fired at an army post in Jedelouine, in the Médenine governorate, sparking a shootout. No one was hurt in the incident. [Bab & TAP]
  5. Jan. 23 – A Sufi mausoleum was firebombed by a group of Salafi Islamist thugs in Akouda, in the Sousse governorate, causing considerable damage. [Bab, Mag, TAP & TL]

  8. Feb. 06 – Terrorists shot and killed Chokri Belaid, the leader of the socialist FP party, as he left his home in the city of Tunis. The incident was attributed to the AST. [AFP, AP, Reut & TL]
  9. Feb. 06 – A police post was set on fire by a group of attackers in the town of Bousalem, in the Jendouba governorate. No casualties were reported in the attack. [Bab & TAP]
  10. Feb. 07 – Unidentified assailants set fire to an office of the Islamist Ennahda party in the town of Menzel Temime, in the Nabeul governorate. [Mos]
  11. Feb. 07 – A band of unknown thugs burnt an office of the Islamist Ennahda party in Hammam Ghezaz, in the Nabeul governorate. [Mos]
  12. Feb. 08 – The local government headquarters and an office of the Islamist Ennahda party were set ablaze by assailants in Meknassi, in the Sidi Bouzid governorate. [Bab & TAP]
  13. Feb. 08 – An office of the Islamist Ennahda party was set on fire by a group of unidentified assailants in the city of Siliana. [Mos]
  14. Feb. 09 – A group of thugs raided and ransacked an office of the Islamist Ennahda party in Guetar, in the Gafsa governorate. An activist of the party was injured when the attackers assaulted him during the incident. [Bab & TAP]
  15. Feb. 09 – Attackers belonging to the LPR stabbed and injured a local leader of the liberal PR party outside his house in Sabikha, in the Kairouan governorate. [Bab & TAP]
  16. Feb. 16 – Assailants hurled incendiary bombs at an office of the nationalist NT party in the town of Sers, in the Kef governorate. [Bab & TAP]
  17. Feb. 18 – Gunmen raided the village of Ghlisiya, in the Kébili governorate, firing indiscriminately at civilians and burning several homes. One person was killed and 26 others were wounded in the incident. The attackers represented a clan in a local conflict. [TAP]
  18. Feb. 20 – Assailants ransacked an office of the Islamist Ennahda party in the town of Faouar, in the Kébili governorate. The attackers burnt documents in an attempt to destroy the office. [Bab & TAP]
  19. Feb. 21 – Gunmen opened fire at police personnel during rowdy protests in the town of Sidi Bouzid, sparking firefights in which two officers were wounded. [TAP]
  20. Feb. 23 – A school was ransacked and later burnt by unknown assailants near the town of Ben Guerdane, in the Médenine governorate. [TAP]
  21. Feb. 26 – A police officer was shot and seriously wounded by an unknown gunman on a street in the town of Sidi Bouzid. [Bab & TAP]
  22. Mar. 19 – Islamist militants battled Tunisian troops during a firefight near the town of Tajerouine, in the Kef province. No one was hurt in the incident. [Bab, Reut & TAP]
  23. Mar. 24 – A police chief was seriously wounded when he was attacked with an axe by a Salafi Islamist thug outside his home in Menzel Abderrahmen, in the Bizerte governorate. [Bab & TAP]
