The Kalaâ Seghira Module [KSM] was a small group of Tunisian jihadis who had sworn allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham].1 It was based in the Kalaâ Seghira suburb of Sousse and had at least half a dozen members.2 The outfit sought to carry out attacks in the Sousse governorate.3

The cell was apparently formed in 2013.4 It held meetings at a local mosque and its members trained at a nearby olive grove.5 Operatives of the module also produced explosives.6

The KSM was rolled up on Jul. 19, 2016 when five of its members were apprehended by police.7 At the time of the arrests, the militants were plotting a suicide bomb attack against an office of the national guard.8 The target was the uncle of one of the cell’s operatives. The module was also planning attacks against police.9
