The Brigade of al-Khattab [KaK; Katibat al-Khattab] was a small jihadi group based in Tunisia’s Sfax governorate.1 The outfit was made up of former members of the Partisans of Shari’a in Tunisia [AST; Ansar Achariaâ].2 It has approximately two dozen operatives.3 Some of these militants had fought alongside jihadi forces in Syria.4

The Tunisian authorities uncovered the KaK following an accidental explosion as members were constructing bombs at a rental house in Aïn Charfi on Apr. 06, 2014.5 Eight cadres were arrested immediately after the blast.6 Security forces apprehended other KaK militants in the following days and weeks.7 Most of the arrested operatives were released shortly afterwards.8 At the time of the group’s dismantlement, its members were plotting attacks against military and police installations in and around Sfax.9
