Tahar Guemair is a Tunisian Islamist from Zarzis. In 2002, he fled Tunisia and became a resident of Sweden.1 From Europe, Guemair helped direct the Tunisian-based Zarzis Module [CdZ; Cellule de Zarzis] which had been set up by associates.2 He also tried to acquire the knowhow to make bombs.3 The module was rolled up by the Tunisian security forces in February 2003. In April 2004, a Tunisian court sentenced Guemair in absentia to 26 years in prison for his role in the CdZ.4 His current status is unknown.
