Mahkouka joined Tunisia’s Brigade of Uqba Bin Nafa’a [KUIN; Katibat Uqba Ibn Nafaâ] following its formation and became one of the group’s most senior commanders.2 He also was a trusted deputy of KUIN leader Khalid Chaïeb.3 Although Mahkouka was involved in attacking Tunisian security forces, he was best known for acting as the group’s public relations chief.4 He regularly communicated with supporters on social media.5

In July 2014, the Tunisian authorities declared Mahkouka to be one of the country’s most wanted terrorists.6 Security forces eliminated him during operations in the Kasserine governorate on Sep. 16, 2014.7
