Jihad Chandoul is a Tunisian Islamist militant from Djerba. In 2013, he left the country with the intention to join jihadi forces in Syria. While traveling through Libya, Chandoul met fellow Tunisian militants and decided to stay.1 He joined the Islamic State’s Sabratha Network [DaISN] and quickly rose through the ranks to become a senior commander.2 In that capacity, Chandoul helped plan attacks and facilitated the travel of Tunisian jihadis on their way to Syria.3 He reportedly assisted in preparations for the June 2015 attack against tourists in Sousse.4

Chandoul was in close contact with members of the Brigade of the Criterion [KeF, Katibet el-Forqane] and allegedly provided assistance with preparations to launch attacks in Tunisia.5

Chandoul escaped the February 2016 American air strike on the DaISN’s main compound, but was arrested soon afterwards by Libyan security forces.6
