Militant Incidents in Thailand (February 2016)

1. Feb. 02 – An off-duty paramilitary soldier was killed and his wife was injured when gunmen fired at them as they were riding a motorcycle in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province. [BP]
2. Feb. 03 – Gunmen sprayed gunfire at the home of a village chief in the Mannang district of the Satun province, killing his son and injuring two other members of his family. Local criminal elements furious over a police crackdown on their activities were suspected in the incident. [BP]
3. Feb. 10 – Militants briefly clashed with Thai security forces conducting operations in Pattani‘s Nonchik district. No casualties were reported in the shootout. [BP & Nat]
4. Feb. 11 – A roadside bomb exploded as a paramilitary patrol passed by in the city of Pattani. Two soldiers sustained injuries in the blast. [Nat]
5. Feb. 12 – A group of assailants set fire to a school building in the Nongchik district of the Pattani province, causing only damage. [BP & Nat]
6. Feb. 12 – Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a civilian as he was riding his motorcycle in the Yaring district of the Pattani province. [BP]

9. Feb. 12 – Bands of militants bombed five electricity pylons in the Bacho district of the Narathiwat province. No one was hurt in the blasts. [BP & Nat]
10. Feb. 12 – A fuel station was damaged when a group of attackers burnt pumps in the Nongchik district of the Pattani province. [BP]
11. Feb. 12 – Gunmen opened fire at a joint army-police checkpoint in the Muang district of the Pattani province. Nobody was hurt in the incident. [BP]
12. Feb. 13 – Terrorists stopped a truck and subsequently shot dead its driver in Narathiwat‘s Rueso district. The victim was killed after killed after the attackers discovered he was not a local. [BP]
13. Feb. 13 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by in the Rueso district of the Narathiwat province. No one was hurt in the incident. [BP]
14. Feb. 15 – Militants detonated a roadside bomb as paramilitary patrol passed by in the Sungai Kolok district of the Narathiwat province. One soldier was hurt in the blast. [BP]
15. Feb. 17 – An unidentified gunman shot and badly wounded a local government official at his home in the Aoluk district of the Krabi province. [BP]
16. Feb. 17 – One soldier was killed and a colleague was seriously injured when a roadside bomb exploded as they rode by on a motorcycle while escorting teachers in Narathiwat‘s Bacho district. [BP]
17. Feb. 18 – Two officers sustained injuries when a roadside bomb exploded as a police patrol passed by in the Kapho district of the Pattani province. [BP]
18. Feb. 21 – A couple was shot to death by terrorists as they were traveling to work on their motorcycle in the Khokpho district of the Pattani province. [BP]
19. Feb. 27 – A car bomb went off outside a police station in the Muang district of the Pattani province. Seven policemen and five civilians were injured in the attack. [BP & Nat]
20. Feb. 29 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army patrol passed by in the Sungai Kolok district of the Narathiwat province. No one was hurt in the blast. [BP]
