Militant Incidents in Thailand (February 2013)

1. Feb. 01 – Terrorists fired at a vehicle carrying instructors involved in an agricultural development project in the Yaring district of the Pattani province, killing two of them and wounding ten others. [Nat]
2. Feb. 03 – A local government official was shot and wounded outside home in the Raman district of the Yala province. [BP & MCOT]
3. Feb. 04 – A bystander was wounded when militants fired at the pickup truck carrying the district chief on a road in Pattani‘s Mayo district. [Nat]
4. Feb. 05 – Four traders from the Rayong province were tied up and subsequently shot dead execution style by Islamic terrorists at their residence in the Krong Pinang district of the Yala province. The attack was attributed to the RKK. [BP, DPA & Nat]
5. Feb. 09 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen fired at a pickup truck carrying two defense volunteers in Pattani‘s Yarang district, killing one of them and wounding his colleague. [BP & Nat]
6. Feb. 10 – Five soldiers were killed and a colleague was critically injured when an army truck was targeted in a car bomb explosion in the Raman district of the Yala province. [BP, DPA, MCOT & Nat]
7. Feb. 10 – A salesman was shot to death by motorcycle-borne gunmen as he left a school in the Saiburi district of the Pattani province. [MCOT]
8. Feb. 10 – A roadside bomb exploded as paramilitary troops passed by in the Rangae district of the Narathiwat province. Four soldiers were hurt in the attack. [MCOT]
9. Feb. 11 – An officer was wounded in a gun battle between a group of terrorists and police personnel in the Khokpho district of the Pattani province. [BP]
10. Feb. 12 – Unidentified assailants set fire to school buildings in the Bacho district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
11. Feb. 13 – Islamic fighters shot and injured a paramilitary soldier in front of his home in Narathiwat’s Rangae district. [BP]
12. Feb. 13 – A group of more than fifty Malay militants attacked an army base in the Bacho district of the Narathiwat province, sparking a gun battle in which sixteen of the assailants were eliminated. [AP, BP, MCOT & Nat]
13. Feb. 13 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen shot and injured a couple as they were working at their food stall in the Pattani province. [MCOT]

15. Feb. 16 – A civilian was wounded when a bomb exploded outside a karaoke bar in the city of Pattani. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
16. Feb. 16 – Militants firebombed a construction material store in the city of Pattani. Two workers were hurt in the incident. The assailants subsequently firebombed a nearby shop. [MCOT & Nat]
17. Feb. 17 – A mobile phone tower was set on fire by a group of unidentified militants in Pattani‘s Yaring district. [BP & MCOT]
18. Feb. 17 – Assailants set fire to a residential compound for defense volunteers in the Yaring district of the Pattani province. [BP]
19. Feb. 17 – A department store was destroyed in a fire sparked by an incendiary bomb blast in the city of Pattani. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
20. Feb. 17 – Three defense volunteers were killed when two bombs exploded outside a busy restaurant in the city of Pattani. Eleven other people, including a policeman, were wounded in the attack. [BP, DPA, MCOT, Nat & Reut]
21. Feb. 18 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen shot and injured a deputy village headman as he was traveling home in the Maelan district of the Pattani province. [BP]
22. Feb. 18 – Gunmen shot and wounded a school teacher as he was driving his pickup truck in Pattani‘s Khokpho district. [BP & MCOT]
23. Feb. 19 – A retired paramilitary soldier was injured when he was shot by gunmen as he was driving his motorcycle in the Yaha district of the Yala province. [BP]
24. Feb. 19 – Militants hurled a grenade at an army base in the Yala province. Eight soldiers were hurt in the attack. [BP]
25. Feb. 19 – A deputy village headman was shot dead by terrorists as he was riding a motorcycle in the Khokpho district of the Pattani province. [BP & MCOT]
26. Feb. 20 – Two defense volunteers were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in the Muang district of the Yala province. [BP & MCOT]
27. Feb. 22 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army patrol passed by in Pattani‘s Kapho district. Nobody was hurt in the blast. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
28. Feb. 22 – Two soldiers were seriously wounded when a roadside bomb exploded as a group of teachers under military escort passed by in the Khokpho district of the Pattani province. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
29. Feb. 22 – Attackers fired three grenades at a police station in the Kapho district of the Pattani province. Eight policemen were wounded in the attack. [MCOT & Nat]
30. Feb. 23 – A mobile phone tower was set on fire by a group of unidentified militants in the city of Pattani. [BP]
31. Feb. 23 – A school building and an abandoned home were set on fire by terrorists in the Yaring district of the Pattani province. [BP]
32. Feb. 23 – A bomb exploded outside an Islamic bank in the city center of Pattani. No one was hurt in the blast. [BP]
33. Feb. 23 – Two bombs exploded outside a grocery shop in Narathiwat‘s Rangae district, injuring two defense volunteers and a child. [BP, MCOT & Nat]
34. Feb. 23 – Seven defense volunteers were wounded in a bomb explosion outside a shop in the city of Pattani. [MCOT & Nat]
35. Feb. 23 – A vendor and an acquaintance were shot and badly injured by terrorists as they were riding a motorcycle in the Nongchik district of the Pattani province.[Nat]
36. Feb. 23 – Militants bombed and damaged a telephone booth in the Bannang Sata district of the Yala province. [Nat]
37. Feb. 25 – An environmentalist activist was shot to death by gunmen as he was waiting for his pickup truck at a garage in Chachoengsao‘s Phanom Sarakham district. [BP & IFEX]
38. Feb. 26 – Two electricity poles were blown up by terrorists in the Yingo district of the Narathiwat province. [BP]
