The PAD’s Anarchist Anti-Violence Nucleus [PAD-PAA; PAD – Pyrínas Anarchikís Antivías] was an affiliate of the Direct Action Cells [PAD; Pyrínes Ámesis Drásis] franchise that was behind a series of attacks aimed at residences of senior law enforcement personnel in Athens. The outfit acted in support of the hunger strike by imprisoned terrorist of the November 17 Revolutionary Organization [17N; Epanastatikí Orgánosi Dekaefta Noémvri] Dimitris Koufontinas.1

The PAD-PAA first emerged on Feb. 12, 2021 when it posted a communiqué on a left-wing extremist website in which it asserted responsibility for two incendiary bomb attacks against the residences of two police chiefs in the Greek capital city.2 There were no reports of any such actions in the Greek press which the militants attributed to the media’s support for the government’s “order and security narrative’.  On Feb. 19, the group planted an incendiary bomb outside the residence of the director of a police officer association in the Vyronas suburb of Athens.3 A neighbor was able to the defuse the device. The PAD-PAA claimed responsibility for the action in a statement on Feb. 23, 2021.4 In the message, the outfit also reported having targeted the home of a police chief. This alleged incident was again uncorroborated by press reports.
