The MTA’s Core of Proletarian Revenge [MTA-PPA; Pyrínas Proletariakís Antekdíkisis] was an apparent communist militant cell that operated under the name of the Class Solidarity Front [MTA; Métopo Taxikís Allilengýis]. Members set fire at a shop of an electricity provider in the city center of Thessaloniki on Dec. 27, 2020, causing only minor damage.1 The MTA-PPA claimed responsibility for the incident in an internet statement three days later.2 The outfit reported that the action was caried out to avenge “proletarian sacrifices on the altar of profit and greed”. It cited several recent cases of workplace accidents that have resulted in deaths and serious injuries. The assailants accused the state and employers of committing “social genocide” and rejected the possibility of rectifying the situation through “sold-out institutionalized labor unions”.
