Mohammed Wazir (°ca 1986) is a little-known Afghan Islamist from Khost who has lived in Europe since emigrating in 2007.1 He got married to French convert to Islam Claire Khacer after meeting her in Scotland.2 The couple later settled in France until Wazir was deported for living in the country illegally. His wife followed him to Afghanistan. Wazir defiantly returned to France in 2011 after Khacer got pregnant.3 The couple lived in Cannes but separated shortly after the birth of their son whom they provocatively named “Jihad”.4 Wazir went on to serve as an imam at mosques in and around Cannes.5 French security services had him flagged for radicalism. On Mar. 10, 2017, Wazir was sentenced to eighteen months in prison after having threatened to gun down local magistrates.6 Although in France illegally, he is allowed to stay in the country because his son lives there. His current status in unclear.
