Thierry Valorus (°1975) is a former robber and jihadi operative from Guadeloupe who has long lived in Paris. It is unclear how and when he turned to radical Islam.1 Valorus was linked to Strasbourg-based Islamists Farid Boukhouch and Youssef Lamrini, although the precise nature of their relationship is unclear. In 2014, he followed Boukhouch’s example and began providing fitness training and martial arts practice to Islamist associates in preparation for joining the jihadi forces in Syria.2 Valorus and his companions trained in Parisian public parks.

In the fall of 2014, Valorus made a trip to Syria where he spent some time with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham].3 Valorus was arrested in Turkey.4 A French court sentenced him to a seven-year prison term in April 2017.5 Valorus received a longer sentence of nine years by an appeals court on May 15, 2018.6
