Mounir Chargui (°1985) was a little-known jihadi of North African descent from the Elsau suburb of Strasbourg. Posing as a medical aid worker, he traveled to Syria and joined the Support Front for the People of the Levant [JaNS; Jabhat al-Nusra li-Ahli ash-Sham] in the autumn of 2013.1 On Oct. 09, Chargui reportedly blew himself up at a Syrian military position in the Aleppo governorate.2 Ten soldiers were killed in the attack. French authorities could not confirm his death. A court sentenced him in absentia to ten years in prison on Sep. 04, 2018.3
