Alperen Can (°1995) is an Islamist of Turkish descent and associate of the Strasbourg-Meinau Jihadi Network [FJSM; Filière Jihadiste de Strasbourg-Meinau]. As a youngster, he supported the Turkish fascist Grey Wolves movement before turning to radical Islam in 2013.1 In late 2014, Can sneaked into Syria during a holiday in Turkey and briefly joined the Support Front for the People of the Levant [JaNS; Jabhat al-Nusra li-Ahl al-Sham]. He was trained in weapons handling but returned to France at the end of December 2014.2 Can worked as a plasterer for some time before he and two other FJSM associates decided to link up with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham].3 In May 2016, they were turned back by Slovenian border guards while driving to Syria.4 Can was arrested by French police on Jan. 17, 2017.5 He was sentenced to nine years in prison on Jun. 12, 2018.6
