Militant Incidents in Egypt (Jul. – Sep. 2018)

1. Jul. 03 – Two civilians were killed when their vehicle was struck in a roadside bomb explosion in the North Sinai governorate. [MM]
2. Jul. 03 – One soldier was injured in clashes between militants and security forces conducting operations in the North Sinai governorate. Three terrorists were eliminated in the fighting. [Baw, EI & MM]
3. Jul. 07 – A roadside bomb exploded as a military armored vehicle passed by on a highway south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing a soldier and injuring two colleagues. [MM]
4. Jul. 09 – Militants abducted an army informer near the village of Barth, in the North Sinai governorate. The victim was later killed by having his throat slit. The DaIWS asserted responsibility for the killing. [EDR & MM]
5. Jul. 10 – A soldier sustained injuries when a military vehicle was struck in a roadside bomb blast near Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [EDR]
6. Jul. 20 – A volunteer was killed and five others were wounded in a gun battle between a band of terrorists and a Bedouin tribal defense militia in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. Four militants died in the fighting. [MM]
7. Jul. 22 – A civilian was stabbed and killed by unidentified militants in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
8. Jul. 22 – Gunmen opened fire at an ambulance west of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, wounding two paramedics. One of the victims succumbed to his injuries several days later. [MM]
9. Aug. 03 – A local politician belonging to the Nour party was shot to death by suspected DaIWS militants as he was returning home from a mosque in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [MM, MY, Sho & Y7]
10. Aug. 11 – A suicide bomber blew himself up after being confronted by policemen outside a church in the town of Mostorod, in the Qalyubiya governorate. Two bystanders were hurt in the blast. The attack was carried by the ZMM. [Ahr, Baw & EI]
11. Aug. 13 – Militants opened fire at policemen who raided their hideout in Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. Six terrorists were eliminated in the ensuing shootout. [Ahr]
12. Aug. 19 – A soldier was killed and four colleagues were wounded when a suicide terrorist detonated his car bomb next to a tank west of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AVSI]
13. Aug. 25 – A group of militants attacked a police checkpoint west of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing four officers and injuring ten colleagues. Four of the assailants were eliminated in the ensuing gun battle. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the incident. [Ahr, Baw, EI, MM, MS & Reut]
14. Aug. 25 – One soldier was killed and two colleagues were wounded when a group of attackers fired at a military checkpoint in Wadi al-Alaqi, in the Aswan governorate. [AVSI]
15. Aug. 27 – Gunmen opened fire at soldiers guarding a fuel station in central Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. One soldier and two civilians were injured in the incident. [MM]
16. Aug. 28 – Two emergency workers were wounded when an ambulance was hit in a roadside bomb explosion south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [MM]
17. Sep. 01 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army convoy passed by near Mount Hallal, in the North Sinai governorate, killing two soldiers and injuring two colleagues. [MS]
18. Sep. 02 – Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a police officer as he was buying food at an eatery in the city center of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [MM]
19. Sep. 04 – Three civilians were killed when their vehicle was hit in a roadside bomb blast in the village of Masoura, in the North Sinai governorate. [AVSI]
20. Sep. 04 – A militant prematurely detonated his bomb outside the American embassy in the city of Qahira. No one was injured in the incident. [Baw & BBC]
21. Sep. 06 – A soldier was killed when a military armored vehicle was struck in a roadside bomb explosion near Mount Hallal, in the North Sinai governorate. [AVSI]
22. Sep. 09 – Two soldiers were killed and four colleagues were wounded when an armored vehicle was struck in a roadside bomb explosion in the town of Sheikh Zuweid, in the North Sinai governorate. [MS & Reut]
23. Sep. 14 – A mob of Islamist thugs ransacked five homes of Christian families in the village of Dimshau Hashim, in the Minya governorate. Two Copts were injured in assaults by the attackers. The violence occurred after Muslims became angry over rumors that a church would be built in the village. [Ahr]
24. ±Sep. 15 – Cadres of the DaIWS captured and executed three people associated with Bedouin tribal defense militias on two separate occasions near Barth, in the North Sinai governorate. [MM]
25. Sep. 15 – Several water pipelines and two electricity poles were damaged in bomb blasts in the Sebika area of the North Sinai governorate. [AVSI]
26. Sep. 26 – A group of gunmen attacked workers who were repairing damaged electricity pylons west of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. No casualties were reported in the incident. [AVSI]
27. Sep. 29 – Gunmen shot and killed an employee of the local police department outside his home in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [MM]
28. Sep. 30 – Two children were killed when a bomb exploded near a military checkpoint in the Karama suburb of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AVSI]
