Overview of incidents

  1. Apr. 14 – Eight soldiers were killed and fifteen colleagues were wounded when a band of militants attacked a military base in the village of Quseima, in the North Sinai governorate. Four of the terrorists blew themselves up during the incident. At least ten of the assailants were eliminated in the attack and subsequent gun battles.   2. Apr. 16 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army vehicle passed by in Sheikh Zuweid, in the North Sinai governorate. One soldier was killed in the incident. [MM]
  3. Apr. 16 – Muslim thugs hurled incendiary bombs at the houses of several Coptic families and set fire to a Christian-owned shop in the village of Beni Menin, in the Beni Suef governorate. [Esh & MM]
  4. Apr. 17-24 – Three soldiers were killed and two colleagues were wounded in gun battles with militants during operations by the Egyptian army against the DaIWS in the North Sinai governorate. Approximately thirty terrorists were eliminated in the operations. [Ahr, AP & EI]
  5. May 04 – A group of militants attacked a security checkpoint in the village of Goura, in the North Sinai governorate, killing one soldier. Three of the assailants were eliminated as soldiers repulsed the attack. [MM]
  6. May 17 – Two soldiers were killed when a group of DaIWS militants attacked an Egyptian military position south of Sheikh Zuweid, in the North Sinai governorate. [MS]
  7. May 17 – A roadside bomb exploded as the vehicle of a senior police chief passed by on the southern outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The chief was injured and his assistant was killed in the blast. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the incident. [MM & MS]
  8. May 26 – A mob of Muslim thugs rampaged against the Coptic community in the village of Abu Shuqaf, in the Beheira governorate. Seven Christians were injured in assaults by the attackers. The assailants also hurled firebombs at a church during the violence. [Esh]
  9. May 28 – Two soldiers were killed and four colleagues were injured in clashes with bands of militants during operations in the North Sinai governorate. At least eight terrorists were eliminated in the fighting. [Ahr & DNE]
  10. Jun. 01 – A Coptic bus driver was assaulted and injured by Muslim thugs while he was drinking tea during the Islamic fasting period in the Helwan suburb of Qahira. [Esh]
  11. Jun. 03 – Two policemen were killed when the roadside bomb they were trying to defuse went off in Bir el-Abd, in the North Sinai governorate. [MS & Wat]
  12. Jun. 04 – Six Christians were injured in assaults by Muslim thugs in the town of Tashrub, in the Beni Suef governorate. The incident followed an altercation over nude bathing between Muslims and members of the Coptic community. [Esh]
  13. Jun. 06 – A member of the Coptic community was assaulted and injured by Muslims thugs in the village of Beni Ibrahim, in the Asiyut governorate. The assailants became enraged after seeing the Christian drink water during the Islamic fasting period. [Esh]
  14. Jun. 10 – An engineer of the local roads management department was shot dead by unknown militants outside his home in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Sho & Wat]
  15. Jun. 11 – A civilian was shot and killed by unidentified militants in the Masayid suburb of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [MM]
  16. Jun. 13 – DaIWS fighters shot dead two off-duty soldiers and beheaded another one after they had intercepted their vehicles at a roadblock near Sebika, in the North Sinai governorate. [MS]
  17. Jun. 19 – Two alleged army informers were abducted and subsequently beheaded by DaIWS militants in the North Sinai governorate. [MM]
  18. Jun. 24 – A band of DaIWS militants fired at a military checkpoint near Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [MM]
  19. Jun. 25 – Terrorists shot and killed an employee of a local radio station in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [MY & Wat]
  20. Jun. 27 – A roadside bomb exploded as a vehicle passed by on a highway in southern Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing a civilian and injuring two others. [MM & Sho]
