Militant Incidents in Egypt (October 2017)

1. Oct. 03 – A civilian was killed and his brother was critically injured when terrorists fired at them west of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [MY & Wat]
2. Oct. 03 – Unidentified attackers shot and killed a youth in the Risat suburb of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [MY & Y7]
3. Oct. 09 – Terrorists shot and killed a civilian whom they had abducted a few days earlier near the village of Shabana, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
4. Oct. 09 – A civilian was killed and his brother was wounded when gunmen shot them on a street in the village of Masoura, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
5. Oct. 09 – A young man was shot to death by several unidentified terrorists east of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
6. Oct. 10 – Gunmen shot and injured a teacher as he and his pupils were saluting the flag at a school in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
7. Oct. 10 – A soldier was killed in a car bomb explosion at a security checkpoint near a cement factory in Hasana, in the North Sinai governorate. The incident was attributed to the DaIWS. [DNE, MS & Wat]
8. Oct. 11 – Gunmen opened fire at three policemen as they left a market in the Masayid suburb of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. None of the officers was hurt in the incident. [MS, MY & Wat]
9. Oct. 12 – Two girls were shot and injured by unknown gunmen in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [MY]
10. Oct. 12 – An Islamist attacker stabbed and killed a Coptic priest after having blocked his vehicle in the Marg suburb of Qahira. Another priest was also injured in the incident. [Ahr, Bal, DNE & EI]
11. Oct. 12 – Six soldiers were killed and four colleagues when terrorists attacked a security checkpoint in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Six of the assailants were eliminated in the ensuing gun battle. [Ahr, AP, Bal, DNE & EI]
12. Oct. 12 – A soldier was wounded when a sniper shot him as he was manning a security checkpoint west of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat & Y7]
13. Oct. 14 – Militants abducted and subsequently beheaded a civilian who had been traveling on a highway in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [MY & Wat]
14. Oct. 14 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police armored vehicle passed by on the outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Two policemen were injured in the blast. [Wat]
15. Oct. 14 – Two civilians were shot dead by gunmen in two separate incidents west of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [MY & Wat]
16. Oct. 15 – Groups of militants attacked six security checkpoints in the Karam al-Qawadis area of the North Sinai governorate, killing six soldiers and injuring 37 colleagues. 17. Oct. 15 – A trader was shot and injured by unknown assailants near his shop in the city center of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
18. Oct. 16 – Bands of terrorists simultaneously attacked a bank and a church in central Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, sparking a round of gun battles with security forces. 19. Oct. 20 – A band of militants ambushed several police vehicles with roadside bombs and rocket-propelled grenades in the Bahariya Oasis, in the Giza governorate, killing sixteen officers and injuring at least thirteen colleagues. Another policeman was abducted by the assailants. Fifteen of the attackers were eliminated in the ensuing gun battles. The hostage was later freed in a rescue operation. 20. Oct. 21 – A civilian was killed and another one was injured when terrorists shot them on the streets of the village of Tayera, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
21. Oct. 25 – A soldier was injured in a firefight between a group of gunmen and security forces south of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
22. Oct. 25 – Gunmen opened fire at a police unit that was securing a stretch of highway in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Two of the attackers were eliminated in the ensuing gun battle. [Ahr & Wat]
23. Oct. 28 – A civilian was shot and injured by unidentified gunmen in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [MY & Wat]
24. Oct. 28 – A group of gunmen attacked a security checkpoint south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, sparking firefights in which four assailants were eliminated. [Wat & Y7]
25. Oct. 29 – A policeman was injured when a group of gunmen opened fire at a security checkpoint south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Wat]
