Militant Incidents in Egypt (November 2016)

1. Nov. 01 – A roadside bomb exploded as an armored police vehicle passed by in Kontla, in the south of North Sinai governorate, killing an officer and injuring another one. [DNE]
2. Nov. 03 – Three policemen were injured in a gun battle with militants as security forces raided their hideout in the Gesr el-Suways suburb of Qahira. Two of the terrorists were eliminated in the operation. [Ahr]
3. Nov. 04 – A car bomb exploded as the vehicle of a judge passed by in the Nasr City suburb of Qahira. No one was hurt in the incident. The attack was claimed by the HaH. [Ahr, Bal, DNE & Reut]
4. Nov. 04 – An army general was shot and killed by gunmen outside his residence in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the killing. [Ahr, Bal, DNE, EI & Reut]
5. Nov. 06 – A school teacher was abducted by DaIWS militants near his home in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The terrorists shot him to death in front of onlookers four days later. [DNE]
6. Nov. 07 – DaIWS figthers kidnapped a civilian near his home in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The hostage was shot to death on a square in the city three days later. [DNE]
7. Nov. 07 – A roadside bomb exploded as a military armored vehicle passed by south of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, killing one soldier. [DNE]
8. Nov. 08 – Nine soldiers were wounded when their vehicle was struck in a roadside bomb explosion and subsequently came under fire from militants in the North Sinai governorate. [DNE]
9. Nov. 09 – Two soldiers sustained injuries when a bomb exploded as army units were conducting operations in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [Bal]
10. Nov. 09 – Two Sufi Muslim shrines were blown up by a group of DaIWS militants in the town of Bir el-Abd, in the North Sinai governorate. [Bal]
11. Nov. 12 – Militants detonated a bomb and fired at policemen as security forces raided their hideouts in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. Four police officers were injured in the incident. [Bal]
12. Nov. 13 – Suspected DaIWS militants abducted a stateless Arab man from a bus stop in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [DNE]
13. Nov. 15 – A suicide car bomb went off as soldiers raked it with gunfire as it raced towards a military checkpoint in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Gunmen subsequently tried to storm the checkpoint, but were repulsed in a firefight with Egyptian troops. Eight militants were killed in the encounter. [DNE]
14. Nov. 16 – One soldier was killed and two colleagues were wounded when militants fired a rocket-propelled grenade at their vehicle south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Bal]
15. Nov. 19 – Two Sufi Muslim religious leaders were abducted by DaIWS militants outside their homes in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The terrorists later beheaded them. [Ahr, AP, DNE & EI]
16. Nov. 19 – A child was killed and another one was wounded when a bomb planted in a soccer ball they had earlier found on a street exploded in their apartment in the Nassr City suburb of Qahira. [Ahr, Bal & DNE]
17. Nov. 23 – A member of the security forces was injured in a bomb explosion in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [DNE]
18. Nov. 24 – A bomb exploded outside a traffic police station in the Gedida suburb of Qahira. No one was hurt in the blast. [Bal & EI]
19. Nov. 24 – A suicide terrorist detonated his explosives-laden car at a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. A large band of gunmen subsequently stormed the position. Twelve soldiers were killed and thirteen colleagues were wounded in the attack. The DaIWS asserted responsibility for the incident. 20. Nov. 25 – A mob of approximately 2,000 Islamist thugs hurled firebombs at a building housing a Coptic nursery and prayer hall, assaulted Christians and vandalized property belonging to members of the minority community in the village of Naghmeish, in the Sohag governorate.
