Militant Incidents in Egypt (October 2015)

1. Oct. 01 – Bombs exploded outside a police station and in front of a prison in the city of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. No one was hurt in the blasts. [EI]
2. Oct. 01 – A police officer was shot dead by unknown gunmen along the border with the Gaza Strip in the North Sinai governorate. [AM, AP, DNE, EI & EI]
3. Oct. 03 – Two policemen were shot to death by terrorists at a security checkpoint in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, DNE & EI]
4. Oct. 03 – Assailants shot and injured a police officer on a highway in the city of Fayoum. The HIT claimed responsibility for the attack. [DNE]
5. Oct. 05 – Gunmen in a speeding car opened fire at a police checkpoint in Beni Ebeid, in the Dakahliya governorate, killing one officer and injuring a colleague. [EI]
6. Oct. 06 – Unidentified gunmen shot and critically wounded a television news reporter in the Kafr el-Sheikh governorate. [Ahr]
7. Oct. 06 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by on a highway near Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring two officers. [Baw & EI]
8. Oct. 07 – Two civilians were wounded when a bomb exploded outside a police station in the Azbakiya suburb of Qahira. [Ahr, AM, CP & EI]
9. Oct. 08 – Islamist thugs hurled a firebomb at security guards at a university campus in Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. Seven guardsmen and a student were hurt in the incident. [EI]
10. Oct. 09 – A bomb exploded outside a police station in the city of Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. One policemen was hurt in the blast. [Ahr, AM, Baw & DNE]
11. Oct. 10 – Two small bombs exploded at a university campus in the city of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [Baw & DNE]
12. Oct. 11 – Three policemen were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded next to their vehicle in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
13. Oct. 14 – Two civilians sustained injuries when bombs exploded at a police post and a railroad station in the Muharram Bek suburb of Iskandariya. [Ahr, AM, AP & EI]
14. Oct. 14 – Militants opened fire at policemen who tried to arrest them on a street in Badrashin, in the Giza governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [Baw & DNE]
15. Oct. 14 – A bomb exploded outside a police station in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing an officer and a civilian. Six other policemen were wounded in the blast. [Ahr, AP, CP, Baw & EI]
16. Oct. 17 – A car bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. One policeman was killed and two colleagues were injured in the blast. [Ahr, CP, DNE & EI]
17. Oct. 17 – A civilian was hurt when a roadside bomb exploded as he walked by in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
18. Oct. 18 – Two small bombs exploded at a school that was being used as a polling station in the Kerdasa suburb of Giza. No one was hurt in the blasts. [DNE & EI]
19. Oct. 18 – A bomb exploded on a street in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. No casualties were reported in the incident. [EI]
20. Oct. 21 – Eleven police officers sustained injuries when a roadside bomb exploded next to their armored vehicle in the Masayid suburb of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AM, Baw, CP, DNE & EI]
21. Oct. 23 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. One policeman was killed and three colleagues were wounded in the incident. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & EI]
22. Oct. 23 – Two policemen and two security guards were wounded when a bomb exploded during an attempt to defuse it on a traffic intersection in the vicinity of several hotels in the Haram suburb of Giza. The DaIM claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, Baw, CP, DNE & EI]
23. Oct. 24 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by on the ring road of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Three policemen were killed and eight colleagues were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, AM, CP, DNE & EI]
24. Oct. 24 – A policeman was killed when unidentified motorcycle-borne gunmen fired at his car in the town of Fashan, in the Beni Suef governorate. [Ahr, Baw, CP, DNE, EI & MY]
25. Oct. 24 – Gunmen shot and killed an election candidate for the Salafi Islamist Nour party outside his home in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & EI]
26. Oct. 25 – A police officer was shot and injured by motorcycle-borne gunmen as he was traveling home from work in the town of Ibrahimiya, in the Sharqiya governorate. [Ahr, DNE & EI]
27. Oct. 25 – Militants hurled bombs and opened fire at security forces who raided their hideout at an undisclosed location in the Ismailiya governorate, injuring two policemen and one soldier. Three gunmen were eliminated in the subsequent shootout. [AM & EI]
28. Oct. 25 – A roadside bomb went off as a police vehicle passed by in the Masayid suburb of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the blast. [DNE]
29. Oct. 27 – An election candidate for the Salafi Islamist Nour party was assaulted and injured by thugs who dragged him out of his car in the city of Mahalla, in the Gharbiya governorate. [Ahr & Baw]
30. Oct. 27 – Two soldiers and a policeman were wounded when their vehicle was hit in a roadside bomb blast in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
31. Oct. 29 – A roadside bomb exploded as a military vehicle passed by in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Five soldiers and a police officer were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, Baw & EI]
32. Oct. 30 – Three policemen were injured when gunmen fired at security forces during a riot by Islamists in the Sharqiya governorate. [Ahr & AM]
33. Oct. 30 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing one civilian. Three policemen and three other civilians were injured in the blast. [Baw, CP & DNE]
34. Oct. 31 – A bomb exploded aboard a Russian airliner flying between Sharm el-Sheikh and Sankt Peterburg, causing the plane to crash near Housna, in the North Sinai governorate. All of the 224 passengers and crew members were killed in the attack. The dead included 219 Russian nationals, four Ukrainians and a Belarusian citizen.
