Militant Incidents in Egypt (September 2015)

1. Sep. 02 – Two bombs exploded outside a shopping mall in the city of Qena, causing only damage. The center was owned by a Coptic Christian businessman. [DNE]
2. Sep. 02 – Four officers sustained injuries when a group of gunmen attacked a police checkpoint near the village of Abeshna, in the Beni Suef governorate. [EI]
3. Sep. 03 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire at an army checkpoint in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. Three of the assailants were eliminated in retaliatory gunfire. [AM & DNE]
4. Sep. 04 – A roadside bomb exploded as a military vehicle carrying MNF peacekeepers passed by near Goura, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring two Fijian soldiers. Four American MNF troops were hurt when their vehicle was hit in a second roadside bomb blast as they were traveling to the scene of the first bombing. [AFP, Ahr, AP, EI & Reut]
5. Sep. 04 – One officer was stabbed to death by militants as policemen raided their hideout in the Haram suburb of Giza. Several other policemen were shot and injured in the incident. Two militants were eliminated in the operation. [Ahr & DNE]
6. Sep. 05 – Assailants fired a rocket at a security checkpoint in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [DNE]
7. Sep. 06 – The parked car of a police officer was firebombed and destroyed by assailants outside his home in the town of Bilbais, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
8. Sep. 07 – Two officers were killed and four colleagues were wounded when a police vehicle was hit in a roadside bomb blast in Tawil el-Amir, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, AM, Baw, DNE & EI]
9. Sep. 07 – A group of gunmen attacked a security checkpoint near the town of Badr, in the Beheira governorate. Five policemen were wounded in the incident. [Ahr, AM, DNE, EI, MENA & MY]
10. Sep. 09 – Gunmen shot and critically wounded a policeman as he was riding his motorcycle in the town of Abu Kabir, in the Sharqiya governorate. The officer succumbed to his injuries three days later. [Baw, DNE, EI & MY]
11. Sep. 09 – An automatic teller machine was set on fire by thugs linked to the Muslim Brotherhood in the city of Shibin al-Qawm, in the Menoufiya governorate. [MY]
12. Sep. 09 – A small bomb went off on a bridge in the city of Qanatir el-Kairiya, in the Qalyubiya governorate, causing considerable damage. [Baw]
13. Sep. 11 – Two civilians were killed and four others were injured in a suicide car bomb explosion that targeted an army convoy in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & EI]
14. Sep. 11 – A soldier was killed and a colleague was injured in a bomb blast at an undisclosed location in the North Sinai governorate. [AM & DNE]
15. Sep. 11 – Four soldiers were killed and seven colleagues were wounded in a bomb explosion that targeted an Egyptian army unit conducting operations at an undisclosed location in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, DNE, EI & Reut]
16. Sep. 12 – Two soldiers were killed in clashes between Egyptian troops and terrorists in the North Sinai governorate. The army eliminated 64 terrorists during the fighting. [AFP, Ahr, DNE & EI]
17. Sep. 13 – Three boys were seriously wounded in a landmine explosion in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AP & EI]
18. Sep. 13 – Terrorists opened fire at policemen who raided their hideout in the Shorouk suburb of Qahira, sparking a shootout in which two militants were eliminated. [DNE & EI]
19. Sep. 13 – Militants fired a mortar round at a house in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. A civilian was killed and another one was wounded in the attack. [AP & EI]
20. Sep. 14 – Four civilians sustained injuries when several militants fired at guests at a wedding party in the North Sinai governorate. [MY]
21. Sep. 15 – Two soldiers were killed and twelve colleagues were injured in clashes with militants during a large-scale offensive by the army in Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zuwaid, the North Sinai governorate. Security forces eliminated 55 terrorists during the fighting. [AM, AP, Baw, EI & Reut]
22. Sep. 16 – A police chief was shot and killed by terrorists as he was inspecting a security checkpoint in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AP, Baw & DNE]
23. Sep. 19 – Three bombs exploded in the city of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. Nobody was hurt in the blasts. [Baw]
24. Sep. 20 – Militants shot and killed a police chief in front of his house in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The incident was claimed by the DaIWS. [AFP, Ahr, AM, Baw, DNE & EI]
25. Sep. 20 – A bomb exploded near an office complex of the ministry of foreign affairs in the Agouza suburb of Giza, injuring two policemen. The DaIM claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AM, DNE, EI & MY]
26. Sep. 24 – Attackers hurled several firebombs at an electricity transformer in the town of Abu Hamad, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
27. Sep. 25 – Five policemen were injured in a shootout with militants during a raid on a hideout used by DaIM operatives by security forces in Awsim, in the Giza governorate. Nine terrorists were eliminated in the operation. [Ahr & AM]
28. Sep. 26 – A car bomb went off when a military vehicle passed by in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Two soldiers were killed and sixteen colleagues were wounded in the blast. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AP, Baw, DNE & EI]
29. Sep. 28 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire at a police checkpoint in the town of Badrashin, in the Giza governorate, killing one officer and injuring a colleague. [Ahr, AM, Baw, DNE & EI]
30. Sep. 30 – Terrorists shot and killed a Bedouin tribal leader from North Sinai outside his residence in the town of Obour, in the Qalyubiya governorate. The victim had links to the Egyptian army. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the incident. [AP & EI]
31. Sep. 30 – Militants affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood opened fire at police forces who raided their apartment in the Agami suburb of Iskandariya, setting off a gun battle in which the four terrorists were killed. [AM]
