Militant Incidents in Egypt (August 2015)

1. Aug. 01 – Unidentified assailants abducted a news photographer in the North Sinai governorate. The journalist was found shot to death in the village of Abu Tawila on Aug. 12. [DNE]
2. Aug. 02 – Militants bombed and destroyed the parked car of a judge outside his house in the city of Derb Negem, in the Sharqiya governorate. [Baw, EI & MY]
3. Aug. 02 – Gunmen opened fire at the passing car of a policeman in the town of Sinuris, in the Fayoum governorate, killing his young daughter and a friend. [DNE, EI & MY]
4. Aug. 03 – A policeman was wounded when gunmen shot him as he was traveling home from work near Bihmu, in the Fayoum governorate. [MY]
5. Aug. 04 – Unknown gunmen shot and injured two activists of the Salafi Islamist Nour party in the Kerdasa suburb of Giza. [EI]
6. Aug. 04 – Militants fired mortar rounds at a security checkpoint in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. Some of the shells hit nearby houses, killing five civilians and wounding nine others. [Ahr, AM & AP]
7. Aug. 04 – A police officer was shot to death by motorcycle-borne gunmen as he was walking to work in the town of Abu Hammad, in the Sharqiya governorate. [Ahr, AM, Baw & EI]
8. Aug. 06 – Assailants fired a mortar shell at the house of a leader of the Sawarka Bedouin tribe in the village of Mahdiya, in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
9. Aug. 07 – Unknown militants fired a mortar round into the village of Shalak, in the North Sinai governorate, wounding a child. [EI]
10. Aug. 07 – Two electricity pylons were bombed and destroyed by assailants near the village of Etsa Abjaj, in the Fayoum governorate. [MY]
11. Aug. 08 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire at a police vehicle in the Fayoum governorate, killing one officer and injuring three colleagues. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & EI]
12. Aug. 09 – Unidentified assailants hurled a firebomb at a police vehicle in the city of Iskandariya. No officers were hurt in the incident. [MY]
13. Aug. 09 – Two gunmen opened fire at Egyptian soldiers in the Salam City suburb of Suways, killing a deputy police chief and and injuring a soldier. One of the attackers was eliminated in retaliatory gunfire. [Ahr, AM, DNE & MY]
14. Aug. 09 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Two policemen were killed and three colleagues were wounded in the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & EI]
15. Aug. 10 – Militants bombed and destroyed an electricity pylon near the village of Kafr Mahfouz, in the Fayoum governorate. [MY]
16. Aug. 10 – A bomb exploded outside a courthouse in the Heliopolis suburb of Qahira, wounding two policemen and a civilian. One of the officers succumbed to his injuries a week later. The AM asserted responsibility for the attack. [Ahr, AM, Baw, DNE & EI]
17. Aug. 11 – A small bomb went off near the local police headquarters in the city of Fayoum. Several parked cars were damaged in the blast. [Baw, DNE & MY]

19. Aug. 13 – Several cash machines were firebombed and badly damaged by motorcycle-borne assailants in the Menoufiya governorate. [EI]
20. Aug. 13 – A policeman was shot and wounded by gunmen as he was traveling home from work in Abu Hammad, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
21. Aug. 14 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen sprayed gunfire at a police station in the city of Minya. No one was hurt in the attack. [MY]
22. Aug. 15 – Three telephone booths were set on fire by unknown militants across the town of Hosh Eisa, in the Beheira governorate. [Baw]
23. Aug. 15 – Unidentified attackers set fire to an automatic teller machine in the city of Menouf, in the Menoufiya governorate. [EI]
24. Aug. 15 – Militants detonated a roadside bomb as a police vehicle passed by in the Hawatim suburb of Fayoum. Nobody was hurt in the incident. [Baw]
25. Aug. 15 – A security guard was shot and injured by two unknown gunmen at an undisclosed location in the Menoufiya governorate. [MY]
26. Aug. 16 – Two bombs exploded next to water pipelines in the city of Damanhour, in the Beheira governorate. No one was hurt in the blasts. [Baw]
27. Aug. 16 – A section of a railroad track was blown up by militants near the village of Shayba, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
28. Aug. 17 – A band of militants opened fire at an army post in Tawil al-Amir, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring two soldiers. Four of the assailants were eliminated in the ensuing gun battles. [EI]
29. Aug. 17 – Three men were abducted and later beheaded by a group of terrorists south of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
30. Aug. 17 – An electricity generator was bombed by unidentified assailants in the town of Hihya, in the Sharqiya governorate. [Baw & MY]
31. Aug. 18 – Two soldiers were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded as a military vehicle passed by in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr & MY]
32. Aug. 18 – Gunmen shot and seriously injured a policeman as he was traveling to work in the Fayoum governorate. The officer died of his wounds a few days later. [AM, DNE & EI]
33. Aug. 18 – A bomb exploded during an attempt by experts to defuse it outside a local government office in the city of Asiyut. No one was hurt in the blast. [Baw & DNE]
34. Aug. 18 – A civilian was abducted and later shot to death by unknown militants in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [Baw]
35. Aug. 18 – A small bomb went off outside the provincial government headquarters in the city of Menouf, in the Menoufiya governorate. No one was hurt in the blast. [Baw & MY]

39. Aug. 23 – A parked car of the social security department was set on fire by unknown attackers in the city of Damanhour, in the Beheira governorate. [MY]
40. Aug. 23 – Militants detonated a roadside bomb as a tank passed by in the village of Qawadis, in the North Sinai governorate. One soldier was killed and two colleagues were injured in the attack. [AP & Baw]
41. Aug. 23 – Terrorists opened fire at policemen who tried to arrest them in the Qalyubiya governorate, killing one officer. [DNE]
42. Aug. 24 – Unidentified assailants shot and wounded a civilian as he was walking on a street in the Masayid suburb of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [MY]

44. Aug. 24 – A roadside bomb exploded as an armored military vehicle passed by in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Five soldiers were hurt in the blast. [AP & Baw]
