Militant Incidents in Egypt (July 2015)

1. Jul. 01 – Bombs exploded at a local government office and a traffic police station in the city of Fayoum, injuring a civilian. Another bomb went off on a street. [Ahr, Baw & MY]
2. Jul. 01 – Militants bombed three electricity pylons near Banha in the Qalyubiya governorate. No further information was available. [Baw & EI]
3. Jul. 01 – Bands of militants simultaneously attacked more than a dozen military checkpoints in and around Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, killing 21 soldiers and wounding at least thirteen colleagues. Several car bombs were detonated by the militants during the attacks. Approximately 100 of the assailants were eliminated in the ensuing rounds of clashes. The incident was claimed by the DaIWS. 4. Jul. 01 – Unidentified assailants bombed and damaged an electricity booth in the village of Abjej, in the Fayoum governorate. [MY
5. Jul. 01 – A bomb exploded in front of a police station in the city of Aswan. No casualties were reported in the incident. [Baw]
6. Jul. 01 – Militants affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood opened fire at policemen who raided the apartment in which they were holed up in Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. Nine terrorists were eliminated in the ensuing gun battle. [Ahr, AM & EI]
7. Jul. 02 – A policeman was shot dead by assailants as he was traveling to work on his motorcycle on the outskirts of Sinuris, in the Fayoum governorate. The HIT claimed responsibility for the attack.[Baw & MY]
8. Jul. 03 – Four civilians were killed and two others were wounded when their house was hit in a mortar round fired by unknown assailants in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP & AM]
9. Jul. 03 – Gunmen opened fire at a police car in the Minya governorate. Two police officers were wounded in the attack. [MY]
10. Jul. 03 – A child was wounded when militants bombed several electricity transformers and telephone booths in the city center of Bur Said. [MY]
11. Jul. 04 – An electricity pylon was bombed by militants near Tamiya, in the Fayoum governorate. No further information was available. [Baw, DNE & MY]
12. Jul. 04 – An officer was wounded when terrorists raked a police jeep with gunfire in the city of Asher, in the Sharqiya governorate. [EI]
13. Jul. 04 – Two workers were killed and another one was injured when a bomb exploded at a power station in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM & Baw]
14. Jul. 04 – Militants detonated a bomb outside an office of a teachers’ labor union in the city of Fayoum. No casualties were reported in the incident. [MY]
15. Jul. 04 – A gunman opened fire at a newspaper journalist on a street in the village of Najar, in the Qalyubiya governorate, injuring his son. [MY]
16. Jul. 04 – A small bomb went off close to a railway station in the city of Aswan. Nobody was wounded in the blast. [DNE]
17. Jul. 04 – Militants fired a rocket-propelled grenade at security forces in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, hitting a nearby house. Two civilians were killed and another one was injured in the incident. [AFP, AM, Baw & Reut]
18. Jul. 05 – A bomb exploded outside an office of a mobile telephone company in Fayoum. Four civilians were wounded in the blast. [Baw, DNE & MY]
19. Jul. 05 – Four soldiers sustained injuries when militants fired mortar rounds at a military base in Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [Baw]
20. Jul. 05 – Unidentified militants bombed and destroyed two electricity pylons near Damu, in the Fayoum governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [MY]
21. Jul. 06 – A bomb exploded near a police station in the town of Qaren, in the Sharqiya governorate. No one was hurt in the blast. [DNE]
22. Jul. 06 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire at a police checkpoint in Kafr Ayaz, in the Sharqiya governorate, injuring one officer. [DNE & MY]
23. Jul. 07 – Five people were wounded when a bomb exploded outside a courthouse in Eitai el-Baroud, in the Beheira governorate. [Ahr, Baw, DNE & EI]
24. Jul. 07 – A local government employee was shot and injured by motorcycle-borne gunmen at an undisclosed location in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
25. Jul. 07 – Gunmen shot and critically injured a civilian who cooperated with police forces in the Sharqiya governorate. The victim succumbed to his wounds a week later. The HIT claimed responsibility for the killing. [Baw]
26. Jul. 08 – Five civilians were killed and four others were wounded when a house was hit by a mortar round fired by militants in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. A nearby military base was targeted in the attack. [AFP, AM & Baw]
27. Jul. 08 – A bomb exploded at a fuel station in the Asiyut governorate, sparking a blaze at the installation. No one was hurt in the incident. [Ahr]
28. Jul. 08 – A policeman was hurt in a shootout between a group of gunmen and security forces along the border with the Gaza Strip in Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
29. Jul. 09 – Eighteen policemen sustained injuries when their bus was struck in a roadside bomb explosion on a highway in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the attack. [Ahr, AM, Baw, DNE & EI]
30. Jul. 09 – Motorcycle-borne militants shot and killed a police investigator outside his house in the Beni Suef governorate. The attack was claimed by the HIT. [Ahr, AM, DNE, EI & MY]
31. Jul. 10 – Attackers hurled a bomb and opened fire at policemen guarding a bank in the city of Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate, killing an officer and injuring a colleague. [Ahr & Baw]
32. Jul. 11 – A car bomb exploded outside the Italian consulate compound in the city of Qahira, killing one civilian. Nine other people, including two police officers, were injured in the incident. The attack was claimed by the DaIM. [AFP, Ahr, AP, Baw, DNE & Reut]
33. Jul. 11 – A bomb exploded in a residential neighborhood in the city of Aswan. No casualties were reported in the blast. [MY]
34. Jul. 13 – An electricity transformer was set on fire by unknown assailants in the city of Wasta, in the Beni Suef governorate. [MY]
35. Jul. 13 – A small bomb exploded outside a prison facility in the Asiyut governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [Baw]
36. Jul. 14 – Unidentified assailants bombed and damaged an electricity pylon in the Fayoum governorate. Nobody was hurt in the attack. [MY]
37. Jul. 14 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police car passed by in the city of Fayoum. One police officer was wounded in the blast. [MY]
38. Jul. 15 – One soldier was killed and two others were injured when militants fired a mortar round at a military vehicle in the Sheikh Zuwaid area of the North Sinai governorate. [AM & EI]
39. Jul. 15 – Four policemen and two civilians were wounded when security personnel attempted to defuse a bomb planted under a bridge in the city center of Fayoum. [Ahr, Baw, DNE, EI & MY]
40. Jul. 15 – A band of gunmen attacked a military checkpoint south of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, setting off gun battles in which twenty of the assailants were eliminated. [Ahr & EI]
41. Jul. 15 – A civilian was wounded when a roadside bomb exploded as he drove by on the ring road on the outskirts of Fayoum. [Ahr]
42. Jul. 15 – A suicide car bomb exploded near a military checkpoint on a highway in the Suways governorate. Preventative gunfire by the troops manning the position caused the device to go off prematurely. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the incident. [AFP, Ahr & AM]
43. Jul. 16 – Militants fired a missile at a navy vessel off the coast of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. The attack was claimed by the DaIWS. [AFP, Ahr, AP, Baw, DNE & EI]
44. Jul. 16 – A police officer was wounded when a bomb exploded on a busy square in the Heliopolis suburb of Qahira. The AM claimed responsibility for the attack. [Ahr, AM, Baw & DNE]
45. Jul. 16 – Unidentified terrorists bombed and destroyed the house of a policeman in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
46. Jul. 17 – A small bomb exploded in front of a movie theater in the Haram suburb of Giza. Nobody was hurt in the attack. [AM, Baw & DNE]
47. Jul. 17 – Two houses and a parked car belonging to policemen were bombed by militants in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Baw]
48. Jul. 18 – Six soldiers were killed and seven colleagues were wounded when terrorists attacked a security checkpoint with mortar shelling and gunfire south of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AP, Baw, DNE & EI]
49. Jul. 20 – An electricity pylon was bombed and badly damaged by unknown militants near Qarun, in the Fayoum governorate. [Baw & MY]
50. Jul. 21 – Unidentified assailants hurled a firebomb at a church in the city of Iskandariya, causing only minor damage. [Baw, DNE, EI & MY]
51. Jul. 22 – Gunmen abducted a Croatian oil engineer after stopping his car in the city of Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. The assailants subsequently transferred the hostage to the DaIM which beheaded him weeks later. [Ahr, AP, Baw, DNE, EI & Reut]
52. Jul. 22 – Bombs exploded outside the homes of two police officers in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, causing only minor damage. [Ahr & DNE]
53. Jul. 23 – Four soldiers were killed and three colleagues were wounded when a military armored vehicle was struck in a roadside bomb explosion near the village of Madiya, in the North Sinai governorate. The DaIWS claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, Baw & DNE]
54. Jul. 24 – A roadside bomb exploded as a military armored vehicle passed by in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring two soldiers. [Ahr & EI]
55. Jul. 24 – Three soldiers were wounded in a bomb blast as an army unit was conducting search operations in the village of Goura, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
56. Jul. 25 – A sniper shot and killed a police officer as he was manning a sentry tower in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM, AP, Baw & DNE]
57. Jul. 25 – Terrorists fired a rocket at a military armored vehicle south of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, killing a soldier and injuring five colleagues. [AP]

59. Jul. 26 – Three soldiers were injured when gunmen attacked three military checkpoint south of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [AP & EI]

61. Jul. 27 – A small bomb exploded next to a tramway rail track in eastern Qahira. No casualties were reported in the incident. [EI]
62. Jul. 27 – Two cadres of the AM opened fire at police forces who raided their apartment in the city of Giza, sparking a shootout in which both terrorists were eliminated. [Ahr]
63. Jul. 27 – A man who cooperated with Egyptian security forces was abducted by militants in the North Sinai governorate. No further information was available. [EI]
64. Jul. 28 – A bomb exploded next to an electricity booth outside the building housing the chamber of commerce in the city of Bur Said, causing only damage. [MY]
65. Jul. 28 – Militants bombed and destroyed two electricity booths in the Nassr Ciry suburb of Qahira. Nobody was hurt in the attack. [Baw & DNE]
66. Jul. 28 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army armored vehicle passed by in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the blast. [Baw, DNE & EI]
67. Jul. 29 – Gunmen opened fire at policemen guarding the embassy of Niger in the city of Giza. One police officer was killed and two colleagues were wounded in the attack. An Egyptian employee of the embassy was also hurt in the incident. [Ahr, AP, DNE, EI & Reut]
68. Jul. 31 – Suspected DaIWS fighters shot and injured a soldier in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. No further information was available. [Baw]
