Militant Incidents in Egypt (April 2015)

1. Apr. 01 – Unknown assailants bombed and destroyed an electricity transformer in the town of Obkher, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
2. Apr. 01 – Three civilians who cooperated with the Egyptian security forces were abducted by DaIWS militants from Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. One of the captives was later beheaded by the terrorists. [Ahr & EI]
3. Apr. 01 – A police officer was shot to death by motorcycle-borne militants as he was leaving a mosque in the city of Shibin al-Kom, in the Menoufiya governorate. [Ahr, AM, DNE & EI]
4. Apr. 01 – A woman was killed and three family members were wounded when a house was hit by a mortar shell in the village of Abu Tawila, in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
5. Apr. 01 – Gunmen sprayed gunfire at a passing military train near Beni Hadir, in the Beni Suef governorate. Three soldiers were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, EI & MY]
6. Apr. 01 – Unidentified militants bombed and damaged six electricity pylons on the outskirts of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
7. Apr. 02 – Bands of militants simultaneously attacked five army checkpoints with rocket-propelled grenades and gunfire west of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. Eighteen soldiers and four civilians were killed in the incident. At least thirty other people, including seventeen troops, were wounded in the attack. 8. Apr. 02 – Three civilians were wounded when a mortar round fired by militants struck their home east of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP]
9. Apr. 03 – Motorcycle-borne opened fire at two policemen in Sinuris, in the Fayoum governorate, killing one of the officers and injuring his colleague. [Ahr, AM, EI & MY]
10. Apr. 04 – Bombs exploded at a police station and a school in the Imbaba suburb of Giza. No one was hurt in the blasts. [Ahr, DNE, EI & Reut]
11. Apr. 05 – A bomb exploded on a main bridge in the Zamalek suburb of Qahira, killing a police officer and injuring two colleagues. A civilian was also hurt in the blast. The AM claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
12. Apr. 05 – Unknown gunmen sprayed gunfire at a church in the city of Iskandariya, injuring a policeman and four civilians. [Ahr, AM, DNE, EI & Reut]
13. Apr. 06 – A bomb exploded outside a police station in the Aswan governorate. Three civilians were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, DNE & MY]
14. Apr. 06 – Assailants shot and wounded a defense volunteer as he was guarding an electricity transformer in Sinuris, in the Fayoum governorate. [MY]
15. Apr. 08 – Eleven civilians were killed and at least six others were wounded when militants fired a mortar round into the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AM, AP & EI]
16. Apr. 08 – An electricity transformer was destroyed in a bomb explosion in the city of Bur Said. [MY]

18. Apr. 12 – Six soldiers were killed and two colleagues were wounded when a military vehicle was hit in a roadside bomb explosion near the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. The attack was claimed by the DaIWS. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
19. Apr. 12 – An activist for the victims of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution was beaten to death by unidentified assailants inside his apartment in Giza. [DNE]
20. Apr. 12 – A suicide terrorist detonated his explosives-laden car outside a police station in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing six officers and one civilian. 21. Apr. 12 – Gunmen attacked a security checkpoint in Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring two soldiers and a policeman. [AP]
22. Apr. 12 – Bombs exploded outside two Coptic churches in the city of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. No one was hurt in the blasts. [Ahr & DNE]
23. Apr. 13 – A sniper shot and killed a soldier as he was manning a security checkpoint near the village of Abu Shinar, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, AM & AP]
24. Apr. 13 – A bomb exploded outside a local government office in Helwan, in the Qahira governorate. Two security guards were wounded in the blast. [DNE]

26. Apr. 13 – A group of militants bombed and destroyed two electricity pylons feeding a large media complex in the city of Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. The HIT claimed responsibility for the attack. [Ahr, DNE & EI]
27. Apr. 14 – A small bomb exploded in a residential neighborhood in Kom Ombo, in the Aswan governorate. No one was hurt in the blast. [MY]

29. Apr. 14 – Gunmen shot and wounded a police officer who was checking vehicles in the village of Abu al-Mati al-Baz, in the Dakahliya governorate. [MY]
30. Apr. 14 – Motorcycle-borne terrorists fired at policemen guarding a fire station in Shibin el-Qanatir, in the Qalyubiya governorate. One police officer was killed and two colleagues were injured in the shooting. [Ahr, AM, DNE & EI]
31. Apr. 14 – An electricity pole was bombed by a group of unknown militants in Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. [Ahr]

33. Apr. 14 – A soldier and a policeman were injured when terrorists opened fire at security forces who raided their hideout in the village of Ettihad, in the Sharqiya governorate. [EI]

38. Apr. 19 – Gunmen opened fire at a police patrol near the town of Gamasa, in the Dakahliya governorate. Two of the attackers were killed in the ensuing gun battle. [EI & MY]

41. Apr. 20 – Cadres of the DaIWS attacked a security checkpoint in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, sparking a shootout in which four of the assailants were eliminated. [AFP]
42. Apr. 21 – An electricity pylon was bombed and destroyed by militants near the town of Kafr al-Dawar, in the Beheira governorate. [MY]

48. Apr. 24 – A civilian was killed and another one was wounded when three bombs exploded in the Ain Shams suburb of Qahira. [Ahr & DNE]
49. Apr. 24 – A section of an oil pipeline was blown up by unknown assailants in the city of Kafr al-Dawar, in the Beheira governorate, causing a major spill into a nearby lake. [DNE, EI & MY]
50. Apr. 24 – Three bombs exploded along the rails of a tramway in Qahira‘s Matariya suburb. Two children sustained injuries in the blasts. [EI]
51. Apr. 25 – A small bomb exploded in front of a police station in southern Aswan, causing only damage. No one was hurt in the incident. [MY]
52. Apr. 25 – Militants bombed and destroyed an electricity pylon near Tamiya, in the Fayoum governorate. A passer-by was killed in the attack. [MY]
53. Apr. 25 – An army informer was shot and killed by several suspected DaIWS militants in the North Sinai governorate. No further information was available. [DNE]
54. Apr. 26 – A group of unknown assailants bombed two electricity pylons near the town of Nag Hammadi, in the Qena governorate. [Ahr & MY]
55. Apr. 26 – Militants bombed the house of an influential Bedouin tribal leader with links to the Egyptian authorities in the North Sinai governorate. The DaIWS asserted responsibility for the attack. [Ahr & MY]
56. Apr. 26 – Two electricity pylons were bombed and destroyed by terrorists near the city of Nubariya, in the Beheira governorate. [Ahr, DNE & MY]
57. Apr. 26 – DaIWS fighters stopped and subsequently burnt a truck carrying food supplies to a police unit near Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. The driver and his aide were kidnapped by the attackers. [EI]
58. Apr. 26 – A small bomb went off close to a traffic police post in the city of Fayoum. No casualties were reported in the blast. [MY]
59. Apr. 27 – A bomb exploded outside a police station in the town of Daraw, in the Aswan governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [MY]
60. Apr. 27 – Terrorists shot and injured two soldiers as they were guarding the border with the Gaza Strip in Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
61. Apr. 27 – Five policemen were wounded in a firefight between a group of gunmen and security forces in the Beni Suef governorate. [DNE]
62. Apr. 28 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army vehicle passed by on the outskirts of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, wounding a soldier. [EI]
63. Apr. 28 – Cadres of the DaIWS clashed with Bedouin tribesmen during gun battles in Mahadiya, in the North Sinai governorate. There were no reports of casualties. [Ahr]
64. Apr. 30 – Gunmen sprayed gunfire a minibus carrying staff of a newspaper in Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. Six passengers were wounded in the incident. [Ahr & DNE]
