Militant Incidents in Egypt (March 2015)

1. Mar. 01 – A series of three bombs exploded in the city of Asher, in the Sharqiya governorate. The blasts targeted a carpet factory and an electricity transformer. [MY]

3. Mar. 01 – Unidentified assailants set fire to an electricity generator in the town of Mahmoudiya, in the Beheira governorate. [MY]
4. Mar. 02 – Two civilians were killed when a bomb exploded outside the Egyptian supreme court in the Ramses neighborhood of Qahira. Seven policemen and two other civilians were wounded in the attack. The HIT claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
5. Mar. 02 – A bomb exploded outside a police station in the Heliopolis suburb of Qahira. Nobody was hurt in the incident. [AFP, Ahr & EI]
6. Mar. 02 – Two parked cars belonging to policemen were destroyed in a bomb explosion in the Ma’adi suburb of Qahira. [AFP, AM, Ahr & EI]
7. Mar. 03 – A civilian was shot and killed by unknown militants near the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. No further information was available. [AM]
8. Mar. 03 – Militants bombed two mobile phone shops in the Matariya suburb of Qahira, damaging the stores and several parked vehicles. [Ahr, DNE & EI]
9. Mar. 03 – Unidentified gunmen abducted a civilian from his home near the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
10. Mar. 05 – An electricity transformer was bombed and destroyed by militants in the town of Kafr Saqr, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
11. Mar. 05 – Three soldiers sustained injuries when a military armored vehicle was struck in a roadside bomb blast in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [TNN]
12. Mar. 05 – Several unknown militants bombed an electricity transformer in the town of Belbais, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
13. Mar. 05 – A bomb went off outside a railway station in the city of Kom Ombo, in the Aswan governorate, causing only damage. [Ahr]

17. Mar. 06 – Gunmen shot and wounded a police officer as he was driving home from work on his motorcycle in the city of Fayoum. [Ahr, DNE & MY]
18. Mar. 06 – Two small bombs exploded on streets in the Amireya and Marg suburbs of Qahira. Nobody was injured in the blasts. [Ahr, DNE & MENA]
19. Mar. 07 – Two policemen and a soldier were killed when a bomb exploded outside a branch of an Emirati bank in the city of Mahalla, in the Gharbiya governorate. Sixteen other people were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, AM, DNE, EI & Reut]
20. Mar. 07 – Gunmen sprayed gunfire at a passing fuel tanker truck near Abu Eita Snurs, in the Fayoum governorate, sparking a fire. [MY]
21. Mar. 07 – A group of unidentified militants bombed and destroyed an electricity pylon near Qutour, in the Gharbiya governorate. [MY]
22. Mar. 08 – A bomb exploded outside a mobile phone shop in the city of Shibin el-Kom, in the Menoufiya governorate. Nobody was hurt in the blast. [Ahr]
23. Mar. 08 – A civilian was killed and six others were wounded when a bomb exploded outside a French-owned supermarket in the Seyouf suburb of Iskandariya. [AFP, Ahr, AM, DNE, EI & Reut]
24. Mar. 08 – A policeman and a civilian were wounded when several unidentified gunmen shot them in the Qalyubiya governorate. [Reut]

26. Mar. 08 – Unidentified assailants bombed and destroyed an electricity pylon near the city of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
27. Mar. 09 – A small bomb exploded outside a mobile phone shop in the Smouha suburb of Iskandariya, causing only damage. [AM]
28. Mar. 09 – Gunmen opened fire at policemen guarding a Christian girls’ school in the town of Kafr el-Dawr, in the Beheira governorate. Two police officers were injured in the incident. [Ahr]
29. Mar. 09 – Three soldiers were killed and a colleague was wounded when a military vehicle was struck in a roadside bomb explosion near Kharouba, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
30. Mar. 09 – Assailants hurled firebombs at a bank in the Seyouf suburb of Iskandariya. Other attackers later sprayed gunfire at a branch of an Emirati bank elsewhere in the city. Nobody was hurt in the attacks. [Ahr]
31. Mar. 10 – A suicide terrorist detonated his explosives-laden tanker truck outside a military base in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing one civilian. 32. Mar. 10 – A soldier was killed and three colleagues were wounded when an army vehicle was hit in a roadside bomb blast south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The attack was claimed by the DaIWS. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
33. Mar. 10 – Motorcycle-borne militants hurled a bomb at a hotel on the shores of Lake Qarun, in the Fayoum governorate. No casualties were reported in the incident. [DNE & MY]

41. Mar. 12 – A bomb exploded outside a courthouse in the city center of Uqsur. Two people were wounded in the blast. [Ahr]
42. Mar. 12 – A small bomb exploded in front of a bank in Medinat as-Sadat, in the Menoufiya governorate. No one was injured in the incident. [MY]
43. Mar. 12 – Militants detonated a bomb outside the home of an advisor to the ministry of religious endowments in the Sharqiya governorate, causing only damage. [MY]
44. Mar. 12 – A series of five bombs went off across the Ma’adi suburb of Qahira. Two of the explosions occurred outside a UN office, while another blast took place in front of a shopping mall. Nobody was hurt in the blasts. [DNE]
45. Mar. 12 – A courthouse was damaged in a bomb blast in the town of Obkber, in the Sharqiya governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [MY]
46. Mar. 12 – Two civilians were wounded when a bomb went off at a police station under construction in the city of Mansoura, in the Dakahliya governorate. [MY]

53. Mar. 17 – Militants opened fire at policemen who tried to stop their car near Alamein, in the Matrouh governorate, killing one officer and injuring a colleague. [AM, DNE & EI]
54. Mar. 17 – Unknown attackers set fire to a bus belonging to the Coptic church outside the archbishopric offices in the city of Damanhur, in the Beheira governorate. [MY]
55. Mar. 17 – A civilian was killed and another one was wounded when gunmen shot them south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
56. Mar. 18 – Three bombs exploded in front of the offices of a drinking water company in the city center of Fayoum, injuring five civilians. [Ahr & MY]
57. Mar. 19 – Assailants hurled homemade firebombs at a youth center in the Kerdasa suburb of Giza. Two people died in the subsequent blaze. [Ahr, AM, EI, MY & TNN]
58. Mar. 19 – A small bomb exploded on a street in the Imbaba suburb of Giza. No casualties were reported in the incident. [MY]
59. Mar. 21 – Unknown militants bombed and destroyed a house in the village of Hay el-Tarabin, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
60. Mar. 21 – Motorcycle-borne attackers hurled a bomb at municipal depot in the town of Ibrahimiya, in the Sharqiya governorate. Two terrorists were killed as the device went off prematurely. [AM, DNE, EI, MY & TNN]
61. Mar. 22 – A house belonging to Egypt’s religious endowment minister Mohammed Gomaa was firebombed and damaged by militants in the city of Beni Suef. [TNN]
62. Mar. 23 – Militants opened fire at a police patrol in the Suways governorate, injuring one officer and sparking a brief shootout. [DNE & EI]
63. Mar. 23 – A small bomb exploded outside the home of a judge in the Awsim suburb of Giza, causing only minor damage. [Ahr, EI & TNN]

65. Mar. 24 – A bomb went off outside the house of a village chief in Arin Obkber, in the Sharqiya governorate. Nobody was hurt in the blast. [MY]

68. Mar. 25 – Two bombs went off at a house belonging to influential Islamic scholar Ali Gomaa in the Fayoum governorate. Nobody was hurt in the blasts. The HIT claimed responsibility for the attack. [TNN]
69. Mar. 25 – Motorcycle-borne terrorists opened fire at policemen guarding the embassy of the DR Congo in the Mohandassin suburb of Giza, wounding two officers. [Ahr, AM, DNE & EI]
70. Mar. 25 – A group of unidentified assailants firebombed and damaged at two electricity transformers in the city of Dumyat. [MY]

72. Mar. 26 – Gunmen opened fire at a security checkpoint in the city of Suways, killing a police officer. One of the attackers was killed in the ensuing firefight. [Ahr, AM & EI]
