Militant Incidents in Egypt (February 2015)

1. Feb. 01 – Militants fired a rocket-propelled grenade at an army checkpoint in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate, hitting a nearby house instead. Two women were killed and four other people were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, AM & EI]
2. Feb. 01 – A group of unidentified attackers set fire to an electricity booth on the outskirts of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
3. Feb. 01 – A band of gunmen clashed with Egyptian troops during firefights in Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. A civilian caught in the crossfire was killed and two others were injured in the incident. [Ahr & EI]
4. Feb. 02 – Gunmen opened fire at a security checkpoint on the southern outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. One soldier was hurt in the incident. [AM]
5. Feb. 02 – Unknown assailants fired mortar rounds at two houses in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. A child was killed and two other people were injured in the attack. [AM]
6. Feb. 02 – Militants bombed and destroyed a section of a gas pipeline on the outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [DNE]
7. Feb. 03 – A small bomb went off near a fuel station in western Iskandariya. No casualties were reported in the explosion. [DNE]
8. Feb. 03 – Unknown assailants set fire to the cars of a retired army officer and a policeman in Samasta, in the Beni Suef governorate. [MY]

12. Feb. 03 – A bomb exploded in the vicinity of the offices of the education department in the Nassr City suburb of Qahira. No one was hurt in the blast. [DNE]
13. Feb. 03 – Thugs threw several firebombs at a train that had halted during a rowdy protest by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood in Kafr Dawar, in the Beheira governorate. [MY]

16. Feb. 05 – Gunmen sprayed gunfire at policemen guarding a hotel housing members of the security forces in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. A police officer was killed and a colleague was wounded in the attack. [Ahr, AM, EI, MENA, Reut & TNN]
17. Feb. 06 – A bomb exploded outside a café in the Asafra suburb of Iskandariya, killing a youth and injuring four other people. [Ahr & DNE]
18. Feb. 06 – Assailants blew up an electricity pylon near Kafr Shukr, in the Qalyubiya governorate. No one was hurt in the incident [MY]
19. Feb. 06 – A soldier was injured when gunmen fired at an army patrol in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [TNN]
20. Feb. 06 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police patrol passed by in Abu Zabal, in the Qalyubiya governorate. No one was wounded in the attack. [MY]
21. Feb. 06 – A small bomb went off outside a police station in Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. Two other bombs exploded elsewhere in the city. A street cleaner was injured in one of the blasts. [Ahr, AM & MY]
22. Feb. 06 – A civilian was shot to death by a group of unidentified militants near Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. No further information was available. [TNN]
23. Feb. 07 – A bomb exploded near a police post in the town of Saqqara, in the Giza governorate, causing only damage. [DNE]
24. Feb. 07 – Gunmen sprayed gunfire at an electricity transformer in Beni Suef, sparking a fire. No one was hurt in the incident. [MY]
25. Feb. 08 – Two people were wounded when a series of five bombs exploded outside a bank, a school, an American-owned fast food restaurant and shops in Helwan, in the Qahira governorate. [Ahr, DNE, EI & MY]
26. Feb. 08 – A small bomb went off in front of a youth center in the city of Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [DNE]
27. Feb. 09 – A group of unidentified assailants set fire to an electricity generator in the town of Ibrahimiya, in the Sharqiya governorate. [MY]
28. Feb. 09 – Terrorists opened fire at policemen investigating a barricade of burning tires on a highway near Riyadh, in the Kafr el-Sheikh governorate, wounding two officers. One of the injured policemen later died of his injuries. [Ahr & EI]
29. Feb. 09 – A group of unknown assailants set fire to three parked buses at a public transport depot in the Menoufiya governorate. [MY]
30. Feb. 09 – A school teacher was abducted by gunmen who accused him of cooperating with security forces from his house in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. The victim was found shot to death shortly afterwards. [AM]
31. Feb. 09 – Unknown assailants stopped and subsequently burnt a public bus on a bridge in the Zamalek suburb of Qahira. [TNN]
32. Feb. 09 – Members of a local armed group opened fire at a police checkpoint near the village of Balabishi, in the Sohag governorate, sparking a shootout in which one officer was hurt. The assailants avenged the killings by police of two criminals from the village. [EI]

42. Feb. 11 – The parked car of an employee of the state revenue service was set alight by attackers in the city of Suways. [MY]

57. Feb. 21 – A bomb exploded outside a residential compound for policemen in the city of Beni Suef. A police officer and a civilian were wounded in the blast. [DNE]
58. Feb. 21 – Attackers killed a policeman by deliberately hitting him with their car as he was traveling to work on a road near Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
59. Feb. 21 – The parked car of a Roman Catholic priest was set on fire by attackers in the town of Deir Mawas, in the Minya governorate. [MY]
60. Feb. 21 – Two bystanders were wounded when bomb accidentally exploded as militants were transporting it by car in the Beni Suef governorate. One of the terrorists was killed in the blast. [AM, DNE, EI & MY]
61. Feb. 21 – A group of unidentified assailants set fire to several parked cars of a local oil company in the city of Suways. [MY]
