Militant Incidents in Egypt (December 2014)

1. Dec. 01 – A police officer was shot to death by terrorists as he was traveling home from work in Sahel Salim, in the Asiyut governorate. [Ahr & AM]
2. Dec. 02 – Militants rounded up six civilians and subsequently shot them to death in separate incidents in Sheikh Zuwaid in the North Sinai governorate. [AM & EI]
3. Dec. 03 – Unidentified militants bombed and damaged a section of a railroad track at an undisclosed location in the Sharqiya governorate. [AM]
4. Dec. 04 – A policeman was wounded when a bomb exploded as he tried to dismantle it near a university campus in the Ain Shams suburb of Qahira. [Ahr & AM]
5. Dec. 04 – Terrorists shot and killed two Bedouin men whom they had earlier kidnapped in the Abu Tawila area  of the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
6. Dec. 05 – A bomb exploded outside the house of a policeman in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The officer, his wife and two children were hurt in the attack. [Ahr]
7. Dec. 06 – Militants detonated a bomb close to a security checkpoint in the Sadout area of the North Sinai governorate. One police officer was seriously wounded in the blast. [Ahr, AM & TNN]
8. Dec. 09 – A policeman was killed and two colleagues were wounded when militants opened fire at their patrol in the Sharqiya governorate. [Ahr, AM & DNE]
9. Dec. 09 – A bomb exploded as police experts were trying to defuse the device in the Abbasiya suburb of Qahira. Nobody was hurt in the blast. [Ahr]
10. Dec. 12 – Two bombs exploded near a traffic police post in the city of Fayoum. A police officer was wounded in the attack. [Ahr]
11. Dec. 12 – Gunmen fired shots at police forces who were dispersing Islamist activists during a riot in the village of Souk, in the Kafr el-Sheikh governorate. No officers were hurt in the incident. [TNN]
12. Dec. 14 – A group of gunmen attacked a police station in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing two officers. [AFP, Ahr, AM, DNE, EI & TNN]
13. Dec. 16 – A group of militants sprayed gunfire at a security checkpoint in the Wardian suburb of Iskandariya. Two policemen were wounded in the incident. [Ahr & EI]
14. Dec. 17 – A police officer was wounded when a bomb exploded as he left his home in the Dar el-Salam suburb of Qahira. [EI]
15. Dec. 18 – Several unknown gunmen shot and killed a policeman as he left the house of a friend in the Beheira governorate. [Ahr & AM]
16. Dec. 19 – A woman was shot and injured by militants on a street in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
17. Dec. 20 – Four civilians were kidnapped and subsequently shot to death by militants south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
18. Dec. 21 – A bus belonging to a Coptic church was set ablaze by unidentified assailants in Mit Ghamr, in the Dakahliya governorate. [EI]
19. Dec. 21 – A policeman was wounded in a gun battle between DaIWS militants and Egyptian security forces during a raid on their hideout in the Sharqiya governorate. Five militants were eliminated in the operation. [AP, DNE & SIS]
20. Dec. 22 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen shot and seriously wounded a police officer as he was walking to work in the Marg suburb of Qahira. [AM, AP & DNE]
21. Dec. 23 – A section of a gas pipeline was blown up by militants on the southern outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The DaIWS was suspected in the incident. [Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & EI]
22. Dec. 23 – A police officer was killed when militants opened fire at a prisoner transport vehicle in the Sidi Gabr suburb of Iskandariya. [Ahr, DNE & TNN]
23. Dec. 24′ – Terrorists abducted and later shot to death two civilians in Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. No further information was available. [Ahr]
24. Dec. 25 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army vehicle passed by on the southern outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Two soldiers were killed and one colleague was wounded in the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & EI]
25. Dec. 26 – Cadres of the DaIWS opened fire at policemen who tried to stop their car in the Gesr al-Suways suburb of Qahira. Three police officers and two bystanders were wounded in the incident. Two terrorists were eliminated in retaliatory gunfire. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & TNN]
26. Dec. 26 – A bomb exploded close to a police station in Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. One policeman was hurt in the attack. [Ahr]
27. Dec. 27 – Motorcycle-borne militants opened fire at policemen guarding a bank in the Mohandasin suburb of Giza, killing one officer and injuring a colleague. The ABaM claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AP, DNE, EI & TNN]
28. Dec. 28 – A policeman was killed and four colleagues were wounded when militants fired at a security checkpoint in the Montaza suburb of Iskandariya. [Ahr, AM, DNE, EI & TNN]
29. Dec. 29 – An electricity pylon was damaged in a bomb explosion triggered by unknown terrorists in the Menoufiya governorate. [AM]
