Militant Incidents in Egypt (October 2014)

1. Oct. 01 – Bombs exploded outside a police station and a hospital in the Kafr el-Zayat, in the Gharbiya governorate. No one was hurt in the blasts. [EI]
2. Oct. 01 – Unidentified gunmen fired into a café in the city of Asiyut. Three civilians sustained injuries in the incident. [Ahr]
3. Oct. 02 – Unknown assailants bombed and damaged a vehicle belonging to a government agency in the city of Bur Said. [TNN]
4. Oct. 02 – A police chief and a security guard were wounded when motorcycle-borne attackers threw a bomb at a local government office in the Gharbiya governorate. [Ahr, DNE, EI & TNN]
5. Oct. 02 – A bomb went off outside a judges’ club in the city of Minya. No casualties were reported in the explosion. [TNN]
6. Oct. 02 – Unknown terrorists bombed an electricity pylon in the Sharqiya governorate. No further information was provided. [TNN]
7. Oct. 02 – A bomb went off outside a police facility in the city of Mahalla, in the Gharbiya governorate. Nobody was hurt in the incident. [AM]
8. Oct. 03 – A Sufi cleric and several of his followers were abducted by militants from the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr & AM]
9. Oct. 05 – A small bomb exploded near a Coptic church in the city of Minya. No casualties were reported in the incident. [Ahr]
10. Oct. 06 – Four Bedouin who cooperated with Egyptian and Israeli intelligence services were captured by cadres of the ABaM in the North Sinai governorate. Three of the captives were subsequently beheaded and the other one was shot to death. [AFP, Ahr, AM, EI, Reut & TNN]

14. Oct. 10 – A bomb exploded aboard a parked public bus in the town of Minya el-Kamh, in the Sharqiya governorate, causing only damage. [Ahr, AM & EI]
15. Oct. 11 – A civilian was shot dead by unidentified gunmen as he was driving his car in the town of Hasana, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
16. Oct. 12 – Unknown gunmen captured and subsequently shot dead three young men south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr & AM]

18. Oct. 14 – A group of militants bombed and destroyed a section of a gas pipeline in the Quraiya area of the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
19. Oct. 16 – Two bombs outside a Sufi mosque where a religious festival was being held in the city of Tanta, in the Gharbiya governorate. Eleven civilians were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, AM, AP & TNN]
20. Oct. 16 – Militants fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a police vehicle in Masayid, in the North Sinai governorate. Three policemen were killed and seven colleagues were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, AM, EI, Reut & TNN]
21. Oct. 18 – A police officer was shot and wounded by unknown gunmen at an undisclosed location in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
22. Oct. 18 – A man who cooperated with the army was abducted and later shot to death by suspected ABaM militants in the Rafah area of the North Sinai governorate. [TNN]
23. Oct. 19 – Six soldiers were killed and five colleagues were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion that targeted a military patrol southwest of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AP, EI, Reut & TNN]
24. Oct. 20 – Militants bombed and destroyed an electricity pylon near the town of Demo, in the Fayoum governorate. Local power supply was severely disrupted following the attack. [Ahr]
25. Oct. 21 – A civilian was killed while his wife and daughter were wounded when gunmen shot them in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr & AM]

27. Oct. 22 – Militants opened fire at a police checkpoint in the Minya governorate, killing an officer and injuring one colleague. [Ahr, DNE & TNN]
28. Oct. 23 – Assailants hurled firebombs at two police cars in the city of Damanhur, in the Beheira governorate. Three policemen were wounded in the attack. [AM]
29. Oct. 24 – A suicide terrorist detonated his explosives-laden car at a security checkpoint near Kharouba, in the North Sinai governorate. The assailants then fired several rocket-propelled grenades at the position, before detonating several roadside bombs that targeted reinforcements as they arrived at the site of the incident. 32. Oct. 24 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen shot and killed a police officer as he was walking home from work in the town of Abu Kabir, in the Sharqiya governorate. [Ahr & DNE]
33. Oct. 25 – Assailants set fire to public buses and garbage trucks at the garage on the municipality in Kafr el-Dawar, in the Beheira governorate, causing considerable damage. [Ahr]
34. Oct. 25 – A bomb exploded near a police station in Kafr el-Zayat, in the Gharbiya governorate. Only one of the terrorists was hurt in the blast. [AM]
35. Oct. 25 – A police officer was shot and injured by unidentified terrorists in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
36. Oct. 27 – Militants bombed two electricity transformers in Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate, causing only damage. [DNE]
37. Oct. 27 – Four women were seriously wounded in a roadside bomb explosion that targeted a military convoy in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM & TNN]
38. Oct. 29 – Two bombs exploded at a sewage project at an undisclosed location in the Sharqiya governorate, causing only damage. [AM]
39. Oct. 31 – Two parked vehicles of a government agency were set on fire by a group of unknown assailants in the city of Bur Said. [Ahr]
40. Oct. 31 – A civilian was shot to death by unknown militants in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. No further information was available. [AM]
41. Oct. 31 – Motorcycle-borne assailants hurled firebombs at a police station in the Haram suburb of Giza. No one was hurt in the incident. [Ahr]
42. Oct. 31 – A roadside bomb exploded as an army vehicle passed by near the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Seven soldiers were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, AP, SIS & TNN]
