Militant Incidents in Egypt (September 2014)

1. Sep. 02 – Terrorists detonated a roadside bomb as a police convoy passed by before firing at the stricken vehicles near the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. Eleven policemen were killed and four colleagues were wounded in the attack. The ABaM claimed responsibility for the incident. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
2. Sep. 03 – Unidentified militants bombed a parked police vehicle in the city of Bur Said. No one was hurt in the blast. [EI]
3. Sep. 03 – A police officer was killed in a drive-by shooting attack by militants outside his house in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, AM & DNE]
4. Sep. 03 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by on the outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Two police officers were hurt in the blast. [AFP]
5. Sep. 08 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police armored vehicle passed by in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. Eleven policemen were wounded in the attack. [Ahr, AM & TNN]
6. Sep. 08 – A child was seriously wounded in a bomb explosion in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. No further information was available.. [Ahr]
7. Sep. 08 – An Egyptian soldier was injured in a bomb explosion at an undisclosed location in the North Sinai governorate. [EI]
8. Sep. 09 – A small bomb went off in front of a police station in the city center of Minya. No one was hurt in the explosion. [TNN]
9. Sep. 09 – Unidentified attackers hurled two small nail bombs into two subway stations in the city of Qahira. No casualties were reported in the incident. [Ahr, DNE & MENA]
10. Sep. 10 – A civilian was shot to death by terrorists in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
11. Sep. 10 – Gunmen killed the son of a judge as they raked his car with gunfire in front of his house in the city of Mansoura, in the Dakahliya governorate. [Ahr, Reut & TNN]
12. Sep. 10 – Militants kidnapped and beheaded a man they accused of cooperating with Israeli intelligence services near Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. The ABaM claimed responsibility for the killing. [AM & Reut]
13. Sep. 11 – Five officers were wounded when a bomb exploded outside a policemen’s club in the city of Tanta, in the Gharbiya governorate. [DNE]
14. Sep. 11 – A civilian was shot and killed by several unidentified militants in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr & AM]
15. Sep. 12 – Attackers hurled firebombs at a police jeep in the Maryoutiya suburb of Giza. No one was hurt in the incident, but the vehicle was destroyed. [TNN]
16. Sep. 12 – Motorcycle-borne militants shot and killed a policeman traveling home from work in the Minya governorate. A bystander was also killed in the attack. [Ahr, AM, DNE & TNN]
17. Sep. 12 – A soldier was killed in a drive-by shooting attack by militants as he guarded an army base in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AM & DNE]
18. Sep. 12 – Gunmen opened fire at a security checkpoint in the Suways governorate, killing one soldier and wounding three colleagues. [Ahr, AM & EI]
19. Sep. 15 – Terrorists bombed a gas pipeline near the city of Asher, in the Sharqiya governorate. No one was hurt in the blast. [Ahr]

21. Sep. 16 – Militants fired a rocket at Egyptian troops in the Sheikh Zuwaid area of the North Sinai governorate, hitting a house instead. One civilian was killed and another one was wounded in the incident. [TNN]
22. Sep. 18 – Terrorists fired two mortar rounds at a police base on the outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the shelling. [AM]
23. Sep. 19 – A civilian was captured and subsequently beheaded by terrorists in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. The incident was attributed to the ABaM. [AFP, Ahr, AM & AP]
24. Sep. 19 – Unknown terrorists shot and wounded a civilian near the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
25. Sep. 19 – A child was injured when a bomb exploded close to a security checkpoint in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AM & DNE]
26. Sep. 21 – A small bomb went off on a street in the city of Mahalla, in the Gharbiya governorate. Nobody was hurt in the blast. [EI & TNN]
27. Sep. 21 – A bomb exploded at a police checkpoint near the ministry of foreign affairs in central Qahira. Three policemen were killed and seven others were wounded in the blast. The AM claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AP & DNE]
28. Sep. 21 – A group of militants abducted a young man in the North Sinai governorate. The victim was found shot to death five days later. [AM]
29. Sep. 21 – Bombs exploded outside a hospital, in front of a police compound and on a busy square in the city of Tanta, in the Gharbiya governorate. Nobody was injured in the blasts. [EI & TNN]
30. Sep. 24 – A youth sustained injuries when a bomb exploded at a flyover in the city of Fayoum. No further information was available. [Ahr]
31. Sep. 27 – Bombs exploded outside a police station and a nearby Coptic church in the city of Minya. No one was hurt in the blast. [Ahr & EI]
32. Sep. 27 – A section of a water pipeline was bombed and damaged by unidentified militants in the town of Minya al-Qamh, in the Sharqiya governorate. A bystander was wounded in the blast. [DNE]
33. Sep. 28 – A police officer was shot to death by gunmen as he was traveling to work in the Madinat al-Salam suburb of Qahira. [Ahr, DNE & EI]
34. Sep. 30 – Motorcycle-borne terrorists opened fire at a security checkpoint in the town of Dar al-Salam, in the Sohag governorate. A policeman was killed and a colleague was wounded in the attack. [Ahr, DNE & TNN]
