Militant Incidents in Egypt (April 2014)

1. Apr. 01 – Gunmen fired at policemen as they tried to control a riot by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Ain Shams suburb of Qahira, injuring one officer. [AM]
2. Apr. 02 – Three bombs exploded close to a riot police forces posted outside the campus of a university in the city of Giza, killing a senior police officer and a civilian. Five other policemen and four civilians were wounded in the blasts. The AM claimed responsibility for the incident. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
3. Apr. 03 – Gunmen shot and killed a police officer after dragging him out of his car near the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
4. Apr. 04 – Thugs linked to an Arab Bani Hilal clan shot and killed three members of the Nubian community in the Aswan governorate. [AP & DNE]
5. Apr. 04 – A member of the Nubian community was shot dead by gunmen belonging to the Arab Bani Hilal clan in the Aswan governorate. [AP & DNE]
6. Apr. 04 – Hundreds of Nubian thugs rampaged through an Arab settlement in the Aswan governorate, shooting, stabbing and clubbing eighteen members of the Arab Bani Hilal clan to death. Many others were wounded in the violence. The assailants set fire to several houses during the raid. [AP & DNE]
7. Apr. 06 – Attackers belonging to the Arab Bani Hilal clan attacked members of the Nubian community in the Aswan governorate, killing two people and wounding ten others. [AM & DNE]
8. Apr. 10 – An officer was wounded when a police car was hit in a bomb blast on a square in Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. A second bomb exploded hours later at the same square, causing no additional casualties. [Ahr, AP & DNE]
9. Apr. 11 – Thugs belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood fired at policemen who prevented them from burning their checkpoint in the Gharbiya governorate, sparking a shootout in which two of the assailants were killed. [Ahr, AM, DNE & Reut]
10. Apr. 12 – A bomb exploded near a new hospital as it was being inaugurated by the Egyptian health minister in the city of Qift, in the Qena governorate. No one was hurt in the blast. [AFP, Ahr & DNE]
11. Apr. 13 – Gunmen attacked an army checkpoint in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, sparking a firefight in which three of the assailants were eliminated. [AM]
12. Apr. 15 – A soldier was killed in a gun battle between militants and security forces who raided the compound in which they were holed up in Wadi Hagoul, in the Suways governorate. One of the terrorists was eliminated in the clash. [Ahr]
13. Apr. 15 – A bomb exploded near a traffic police post in the Dokki suburb of Giza. Two policemen and a civilian were injured in the blast. The incident was attributed to the AM. [AFP, Ahr, AP, DNE & Reut]
14. Apr. 15 – A soldier sustained injuries when a military vehicle was hit in a bomb blast in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM & DNE]
15. Apr. 15 – A roadside bomb went off as a police car passed by in Qahira. Two policemen were injured in the incident. [AFP & Reut]
16. Apr. 15 – Three civilians were wounded when a small bomb planted under a car went off on a busy avenue in the Faisal suburb of Giza. [Ahr & DNE]
17. Apr. 18 – Motorcycle-borne militants hurled a bomb at a traffic police booth on a square in the Mohandeseen suburb of Giza, killing an officer. Another policeman and two civilians were wounded in the attack. The AM claimed responsibility for the bombing. [AFP, Ahr, AP & DNE]
18. Apr. 20 – Terrorists opened fire at security forces after stopping their vehicle east of Qahira, killing an intelligence agent and a police officer. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP & DNE]
19. Apr. 23 – A police chief was killed when a bomb fixed to his car exploded in the city of Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. Two other policemen were injured in the attack. The AM claimed responsibility for the bombing. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
20. Apr. 23 – ABaM militants fired at police forces who raided their hideout in Borg el-Arab, in the Iskandariya governorate, killing an officer. One of the terrorists was eliminated in the operation. [AFP, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
21. Apr. 25 – Unknown gunmen attacked an army outpost in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring one soldier. [Ahr]
22. Apr. 25 – A small bomb exploded at an undisclosed location in the Minya governorate. Nobody was hurt in the blast. [DNE]
23. Apr. 25 – Attackers shot and killed a police officer outside a subway station in the Matareya suburb of Qahira. The incident occurred following a protest march by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. [DNE]
24. Apr. 27 – Three policemen were wounded when gunmen raked their vehicle with gunfire in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AM & MENA]
25. Apr. 28 – Unidentified assailants opened fire at policemen in the Agouza suburb of Giza. No one was hurt in the shooting. [Ahr]
26. Apr. 28 – Gunmen fired at Muslim Brotherhood supporters who were participating in a protest in the town of Khayata, in the Dumyat governorate, killing one of the demonstrators. [Ahr & AM]
27. Apr. 28 – Militants opened fire at security forces who raided their hideouts in eastern Qahira, injuring one policeman. Two of the gunmen were eliminated in retaliatory gunfire. [DNE]
