Militant Incidents in Egypt (March 2014)

1. Mar. 03 – A police officer was shot to death by unidentified gunmen as he was walking to work in the city of Beni Suef. [Ahr & DNE]
2. Mar. 03 – Gunmen sprayed gunfire at a police station in the city of Mansoura, in the Dakahliya governorate, wounding an officer. [Ahr & DNE]
3. Mar. 03 – A policeman was shot and seriously wounded by unknown militants in the city of Giza. No further information was available. [Ahr & DNE]
4. Mar. 03 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen fired at a police vehicle in the village of Badrashin, in the Giza governorate, killing one officer. [Ahr]
5. Mar. 03 – The parked car of a police chief was set on fire by a group of unknown assailants in the city center of Aswan. [Ahr]
6. Mar. 05 – Unidentified militants bombed and destroyed a segment of a reserve gas pipeline in the Bur Said governorate. No one was hurt in the attack. [Ahr]
7. Mar. 06 – Gunmen shot and killed a policeman as he was walking home from work in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr]
8. Mar. 07 – Assailants firebombed two police vehicles in the Haram suburb of Giza. Three policemen were injured in the incident. [Ahr]
9. Mar. 07 – Four police officers were wounded when gunmen shot them as they tried to control riotous protests by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood in the city of Suways. [Ahr & DNE]
10. Mar. 07 – Gunmen fired shots at policemen as they tried to disperse proponents of the Muslim Brotherhood during riots in the Ain Shams suburb of Qahira. No one was hurt in the shooting. [Ahr & DNE]
11. Mar. 07 – Two parked cars of policemen were set on fire by a group of unidentified thugs in the city of Fayoum. No casualties were reported in the incident. [Ahr & DNE]
12. Mar. 08 – A bomb exploded close to a women’s college in the Heliopolis suburb of Qahira, injuring a civilian. No further information was available. [AFP, Ahr, AP & DNE]
13. Mar. 09 – Gunmen fired at three policemen on a street in Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate, injuring two officers. The other policeman shot and killed one of the attackers. [DNE]
14. Mar. 10 – Militants opened fire at retired army chief of staff Sami Anan in the Dokki suburb of Giza. The former officer escaped unharmed. [Ahr]
15. Mar. 11 – A bomb exploded near a police car in the vicinity of the Israeli embassy in the Dokki suburb of Giza. No one was hurt in the blast. [Ahr & DNE]
16. Mar. 11 – A cadre of the ABaM opened fire at police forces during a raid on his hideout in the Ain Shams suburb of Qahira. The militant was killed in the ensuing gun battle. [Ahr & DNE]
17. Mar. 13 – A soldier was killed and three colleagues were wounded when motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire at an army bus in the Amiriya suburb of Qahira. [AFP & Ahr]
18. Mar. 15 – Gunmen attacked an Egyptian military checkpoint in Shubra al-Kheima, in the Qalyubiya governorate, killing six soldiers. The attack occurred as the troops were performing prayers. [AFP, Ahr, AP, DNE & Reut]
19. Mar. 17 – Members of a local armed group shot and killed two policemen as security forces raided their hideout in the Qena governorate. [DNE]
20. Mar. 19 – Two soldiers were killed in a gun battle between a group of ABaM terrorists and Egyptian troops raiding their hideout in Qanatir al-Khairiya, in the Qalyubiya governorate. Six militants were eliminated in the operation. [AFP, Ahr, AM & DNE]
21. Mar. 20 – Thugs firebombed a traffic police post during protests by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood in Helwan, in the Qahira governorate. Two police vehicles were also set on fire during the incident. [Ahr]
22. Mar. 21 – A police checkpoint was firebombed by militants on the outskirts of Mahalla, in the Gharbiya governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [AM]

24. Mar. 26 – Motorcycle-borne militants threw a bomb at a police station in the city of Shubra al-Kheima, in the Qalyubiya governorate. [AM]
25. Mar. 28 – A Christian woman was dragged from her car and subsequently stabbed to death by terrorists on the side of protests by Muslim Brotherhood supporters in the Alf Maskan suburb of Qahira. [Ahr, AP & DNE]
26. Mar. 30 – Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a retired army officer as he sat in his car in the city center of Ismailiya. [Ahr & DNE]
27. Mar. 30 – Militants ambushed an army vehicle carrying policemen in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. The soldier driving the bus was killed and three police officers were injured in the attack. [Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
