Militant Incidents in Egypt (February 2014)

1. Feb. 02 – A car bomb exploded on a square in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the blast. [AFP, Ahr & DNE]
2. Feb. 02 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police bus passed by in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring three officers. [AFP, Ahr & DNE]
3. Feb. 05 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen fired at two policemen on a highway in the Sharqiya governorate, killing both officers. [Ahr]
4. Feb. 07 – Two bombs exploded at a police checkpoint on a bridge in the city of Giza, injuring four officers and two civilians. The AM claimed responsibility for the attack. [Ahr, AP & DNE]
5. Feb. 07 – The parked car of a police officer was set on fire by a group of thugs in Sadis min-Oktubar, in the Giza governorate. [Ahr]
6. Feb. 11 – Motorcycle-borne terrorists shot and killed a traffic police officer on a street in the city of Ismailiya. [Ahr & DNE]
7. Feb. 11 – A segment of a gas pipeline was blown up by a group of militants south of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, AM & DNE]
8. Feb. 12 – Terrorists opened fire at a passing police vehicle in the city of Ismailiya. Three police officers were killed in the attack. [Ahr, AP & DNE]
9. Feb. 12 – Militants bombed a section of a gas pipeline south of the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AM & DNE]
10. Feb. 13 – Terrorists fired at policemen guarding an Evangelical Christian church in Qahira‘s Ain Shams suburb, killing two officers. The attack occurred during a protest by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood in the area. [Ahr]
11. Feb. 13 – Two police officers were killed in a drive-by shooting attack by terrorists in the Saqqara suburb of Giza. [Ahr]
12. Feb. 16 – A suicide bomber blew himself up next to a bus carrying tourists near the border crossing point with Israel in the town of Taba, in the South Sinai governorate, killing the local driver and three South Koreans. Fourteen other South Korean nationals and two Egyptians were wounded in the attack. The ABaM claimed responsibility for the attack. 13. Feb. 19 – An army officer was shot and injured by motorcycle-borne militants in the city of Bilbais, in the Sharqiya governorate. [Ahr & DNE]
14. Feb. 20 – Militants sprayed gunfire at a military barracks in the city of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. Two soldiers were hurt in the attack. [Ahr]
15. Feb. 20 – Motorcycle-borne gunmen fired at policemen in the Sharqiya governorate, killing an officer and injuring three colleagues. [Ahr & DNE]
16. Feb. 21 – The parked car of a judge was set on fire by thugs in the city of Tanta, in the Gharbiya governorate. The judge was involved in trials against members of the Muslim Brotherhood. [Ahr]
17. Feb. 21 – Groups of unidentified assailants firebombed seven parked cars of police officers across the city of Qahira. [Ahr]
18. Feb. 22 – A police intelligence officer was shot to death by gunmen as he was getting into his car in the city of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. [Ahr & DNE]
19. Feb. 24 – Motorcycle-borne terrorists shot and killed a police officer as he was traveling home from work in Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. [Ahr & DNE]
20. Feb. 25 – Militants blew up a segment of a gas pipeline near the village of Lahfen, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, AP & DNE]
21. Feb. 25 – Thugs hurled firebombs at a police station during rowdy demonstrations by proponents of the Muslim Brotherhood in the city of Shubra al-Kheima, in the Qalyubiya governorate. [Ahr]
22. Feb. 25 – An army officer was shot and injured by unidentified gunmen in the city of Zagazig, in the Sharqiya governorate. [DNE]
23. Feb. 28 – Gunmen shot and killed a policeman as he was riding home on his motorcycle in the city of Mansoura, in the Dakahliya governorate. The officer was assigned to protect a judge in a trial against deposed president Morsi. [AP & DNE]
24. Feb. 28 – A small bomb exploded in the vicinity of a police station in the city of Iskandariya. Nobody was wounded in the blast. [Ahr & DNE]
25. Feb. 28 – Two policemen were injured when thugs fired at security forces as they tried to control riotous protests by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood in Qahira‘s Ain Shams suburb. [Ahr & AP]
