Militant Incidents in Egypt (October 2013)

1. Oct. 03 – Militants triggered two bomb explosions near a gas plant in the Kerdasa suburb of Giza, causing only damage. [Ahr]
2. Oct. 04 – A senior member of the liberal Dostour party was stabbed and seriously hurt after thugs dragged him from his car in central Qahira. [Ahr, DNE & IKC]
3. Oct. 04 – Several gunmen opened fire at a military convoy on a highway in the Ismailiya governorate, killing two soldiers and injuring two colleagues. [AFP, Ahr, AP, DNE & Reut]
4. Oct. 06 – A policeman was shot to death by unknown terrorists in the town of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr & AM]
5. Oct. 06 – Militants fired shots at a police station during rowdy protests of supporters of deposed president Morsi in the town of Delga, in the Minya governorate. No one was injured in the incident. [Ahr & DNE]
6. Oct. 07 – Unidentified gunmen battled Egyptian troops during a shootout in the city of Giza. No one was hurt in the encounter. [AFP]
7. Oct. 07 – Militants fired two rocket-propelled grenades at a state-owned television station’s relay dishes in the Ma’adi suburb of Qahira. Two people were wounded in the attack. The KaF claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AP, DNE & Reut]
8. Oct. 07 – Six soldiers were killed when terrorists raked a military pickup truck with gunfire on a road in the Sharqiya governorate. The KAF asserted responsibility for the incident. [AFP, Ahr, AP, DNE & Reut]
9. Oct. 07 – A suicide terrorist detonated his car bomb outside the police headquarters in the town of Tur, in the South Sinai governorate, killing three officers and wounding 55 others. The ABaM claimed responsibility for the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE, Reut & SIS]
10. Oct. 07 – Gunmen fired at policemen guarding a customs office in the city of Bur Said, killing an officer and injuring a colleague. [Ahr, DNE & MENA]
11. Oct. 09 – Militants bombed and shot up a vacated military intelligence building and the studios of a local radio station in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [Ahr, DNE & SIS]
12. Oct. 09 – A roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle passed by in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. Four police officers were wounded in the attack. [Ahr & DNE]
13. Oct. 09 – Four soldiers were wounded when a military convoy was hit in a roadside bomb blast in Hasina, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, DNE, MENA & SIS]
14. Oct. 10 – Three soldiers sustained injuries when an army convoy came under fire from militants near Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [DNE]
15. Oct. 10 – A suicide terrorist detonated his car bomb at a security checkpoint on the southern outskirts of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing four soldiers and a policeman. Three other soldiers were hurt in the attack. The incident was attributed to the ABaM. [AFP, Ahr, AM & DNE]
16. Oct. 11 – Nine soldiers were wounded when their armored vehicles were struck in roadside bomb explosions in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr & DNE]
17. Oct. 11 – A civilian was killed in an assault by thugs linked to the Muslim Brotherhood in the village of Daydamun, in the Sharqiya governorate. [IKC]
18. Oct. 13 – Militants opened fire at an police bus in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring three officers. [Ahr & AM]
19. Oct. 18 – Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a police officer on a street in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AP & Reut]
20. Oct. 18 – A civilian was shot and injured by a group of thugs linked to the Muslim Brotherhood in the city of Fayoum. [IKC]
21. Oct. 19 – A car bomb exploded outside a compound of the Egyptian intelligence agency in the city of Ismailiya, injuring six soldiers. The ABaM claimed responsibility for the attack. [Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
22. Oct. 20 – Terrorists fired rocket-propelled grenades and sprayed gunfire at a bus carrying policemen near Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. Three police officers were hurt in the shooting. [Ahr, AM & DNE]
23. Oct. 20 – Gunmen opened fire at Christians as they were leaving a Coptic church in Qahira‘s Warak suburb following a wedding ceremony. Five people were killed and seventeen others were wounded in the attack. [AFP, Ahr, AP, DNE & Reut]
