Militant Incidents in Egypt (July 2014)

1. Jul. 02 – Assailants attacked two police checkpoints with gunfire and firebombs in the Helwan suburb of Qahira. One policeman was killed and three colleagues were wounded in the incident. The attacks occurred during rowdy demonstrations by supporters of the MB. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP & DNE]
2. Jul. 03 – A bomb planted in a car exploded near an air force hospital in the Abbasiya suburb of Qahira. The terrorist handling the device was injured in the blast. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
3. Jul. 03 – Bombs exploded at a police post and a railway station in the city of Asiyut. No casualties were reported in the attacks. [Ahr & AP]
4. Jul. 03 – Small bombs exploded at two police stations in the Imbaba suburb of Giza. Nobody was hurt in the blasts. [Ahr, DNE & Reut]
5. Jul. 03 – Nine people were wounded when a bomb exploded aboard a passenger train in the city of Iskandariya. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP & DNE]
6. Jul. 07 – An Egyptian army officer was shot dead by unidentified militants while driving his car through the city of Dumyat. [Ahr & DNE]
7. Jul. 09 – A roadside bomb exploded as a military armored vehicle passed by near Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. One soldier was killed and four colleagues were injured in the attack. [AFP & Ahr]
8. Jul. 13 – Militants fired at a rocket at the headquarters of the local security department in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. The missile missed its target and struck a nearby supermarket, killing seven civilians and wounding at least 24 others. [AFP, AP, DNE, MENA, Reut & SIS]
9. Jul. 13 – A group of terrorists fired two rockets at an army post in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate, killing a soldier and wounding seven others. [Ahr, AP, DNE, Reut & SIS]
10. Jul. 14 – A bomb exploded at a courthouse in the town of Samanoud, in the Gharbiya governorate. No casualties were reported in the incident. [Ahr & AM]
11. Jul. 17 – Unknown gunmen opened fire at an army post near Goura, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring two troops. [Ahr & AM]
12. Jul. 18 – A police officer was shot and killed by militants as he was traveling home from work in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [Ahr, AM, DNE & Reut]
13. Jul. 19 – A band of about twenty gunmen attacked a border security checkpoint with rocket-propelled grenades and gunfire at Farafra, in the Wadi al-Gadid governorate, killing 22 soldiers and wounding four others. 14. Jul. 19 – A soldier was wounded when Gaza-based militants fired a rocket at a border security checkpoint in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP & DNE]
15. Jul. 21 – Gunmen shot and killed two Sawarka Bedouin tribal leaders near their houses in the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. Both victims had ties to the Egyptian authorities. [Ahr, AP & DNE]
16. Jul. 22 – A security guard was shot dead by terrorists as he was walking home from work in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. [AM]
17. Jul. 23 – Terrorists detonated a bomb next to electricity pylon on the northwestern outskirts of Qahira. No casualties were reported in the incident. [Ahr]
18. Jul. 25 – Two police officers were killed when militants fired at their car as they were driving home from work in Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate. [AFP, Ahr, AM, AP, DNE & Reut]
19. Jul. 26 – Militants fired a mortar round at Egyptian troops as they were searching houses in Goura, in the North Sinai governorate. The shell struck a nearby house, killing four children and wounding five other people. [AFP, Ahr, AM & Reut]
20. Jul. 26 – Gunmen fired at Egyptian troops near the town of Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate, injuring one soldier. [AFP & Ahr]
21. Jul. 26 – A group of militants fired six rocket-propelled grenades at a Sufi mosque in the city of Arish, in the North Sinai governorate. No one was hurt in the incident. [Ahr]
22. Jul. 27 – Assailants bombed and destroyed an electricity pylon in the Qalyubiya governorate. Nobody was hurt in the blast. [Ahr]
23. Jul. 28 – Militants fired a rocket at a military patrol in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, in the North Sinai governorate, killing a child and wounding another one. [AFP]
24. Jul. 29 – A soldier was killed in gun battles with militants during operations by the Egyptian army in Rafah, in the North Sinai governorate. Eight terrorists were eliminated in the fighting. [Ahr, AM, MENA & SIS]
