The Soldiers of the Caliphate in the Land of Egypt [JKAK; Jund al-Khilafa fi-Ard al-Kinana] was a shadowy jihadi entity that emerged in September 2014. The group released a statement in which it announced its formation and pledged loyalty to the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham].1 The JKAK also praised the Partisans of the Holy House [ABaM; Ansar Bait al-Maqdis].2

At the time, the appearance of the JKAK was linked to the arrival of DaIISh operatives in Egypt. They allegedly sought to establish a network linking the organization’s branches in Libya and the Sinai.3 Although the JKAK threatened strikes against Egypt’s Christian community and Western interests, no attacks were ever attributed to the entity.4
