The Abu Anas Module [AAM] was a small jihadi outfit based in Egypt’s Dakahliya governorate. The group was based in the village of Bahut and had about a dozen members.1 It was led by Mohammed Ibrahim.2 Another senior operative of the AAM was former army officer Omar Abu Sheisha.3 The outfit sought to establish an Islamic state in Mansoura.4 Its members wanted to conquer the city by launching a wave of attacks against local security forces.5

The AAM was likely set up somewhere in 2014. The cell went on to procure weapons and its members acquainted themselves with bomb-making, weapons handling and surveillance.6 It also planned to send some of its operatives to Libya and Syria to receive advanced training and gain combat experience.7 The AAM financed its activities by posing as an Islamic charity and collecting donations in the town of Nabarouh.8

The Egyptian authorities eventually learned of the AAM’s activities and had security forces roll up the outfit on Apr. 06, 2014. Nine operatives, including Ibrahim and Abu Sheisha, were apprehended in a series of raids.9
