The driver from Arish became attracted to Salafism in 2003.1 He and his cousin Mohammed Abu Jarir were recruited into the JTJS by Nasser al-Mallahi shortly afterwards.2 Before long, Younis Abu Jarir served as a top aide to Khalid Masa’ed.3 Abu Jarir organized several robberies in and around Arish in 2003.4 The proceeds were used to help fund JTJS operations. He also served as an internal liaison operative.5

Abu Jarir was deeply involved in the JTJS’ attacks against tourist sites in the Sinai. He reportedly played a central role in preparations for the 2004 bombings in Taba and Nuweiba.6 Abu Jarir was also linked to the organization of the 2005 attacks in Sharm el-Sheikh.7
