Sobhi Farahat is an Egyptian jihadi who has been involved in Islamist militancy since the 2011 revolution. He joined the mainland-based wing of the Partisans of the Holy House [ABaM; Ansar Bait al-Maqdis] and served as an explosives expert.1 Farahat narrowly escaped arrest when police intercepted his vehicle while he was transporting explosives near Ismailiya in September 2012.2 He spent the next months hiding in Arish.3

In the fall of 2013, Farahat assisted long-time associate Hammam Attiya with the formation of the the Reinforcements of Egypt [AM; Ajnad Misr].4 He went on to serve as the outfit’s so-called military chief.5 In that capacity, Farahat oversaw several of the group’s attacks.6 He also made many of the bombs used by the AM.7 Farahat was furthermore responsible for the recruitment and training of members and supervised the establishment of new cells.8

In July 2014, Egyptian security forces apprehended Farahat.9 A court sentenced him to death on Oct. 08, 2017.10
