Saïd Azim was a little-known jihadi from Egypt’s Beni Suef governorate. The bachelor in Islamic studies became involved in religious activism during the 2000s.1 At one point, he was jailed for some time by the Mubarak regime.2 In 2013, Azim reportedly traveled to Syria where he possibly joined the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [DaIISh; Dawlat al-Islamiya fi-Iraq wal ash-Sham].3 Azim had returned to Egypt by early 2014 and subsequently served as the leader of the Beni Suef branch of the Partisans of Shari’a in the Land of Egypt [ASAK; Ansar al-Shari’a fi-Ard al-Kinana].4 He and ASAK commander Ahmed Rahman oversaw about half a dozen attacks on policemen in the governorate.5 Azim died when he crashed his motorcycle into a truck during a police chase near Etsa on Apr. 10, 2014.6
