Salim Abu Qurei was a little-known commander of the Islamic State’s Province of Sinai [DaIWS; Dawlat al-Islamiya Wilayat Sina’a]. He was appointed to oversee the enforcement of Shari’a law in and around the town of Rafah.1 Abu Qurei was also known to go after locals who cooperated with the Egyptian authorities. He was blamed for more than twenty killings of DaIWS opponents.2 Government-allied Bedouin militiamen eliminated him in early June 2019.3
