Nasser al-Mallahi (°1976) was an Arish-based Egyptian jihadi from the Beheira governorate.1 He became an adherent of radical Salafism while studying law at the University of Zagazig in the 1990s.2 Mallahi later earned a living as a farmer.3 He was a childhood friend of Khalid Masa’eb and assisted him in establishing the Assembly of Monotheism and Jihad in the Sinai [JTJS; Jama’at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad fi-Sina’a] in 2000.4 Mallahi served as Masa’eb’s deputy and helped spread his message of resistance to Islam’s perceived external enemies at mosques in Arish.5 He attracted several key operatives to the JTJS.6

As the second-in-command of the JTJS, Mallahi was responsible for the organization’s finances. He made investments in agriculture, attracted donations from wealthy backers and coordinated the sale of stolen government property.7 Mallahi also oversaw the physical training of JTJS recruits.8

Mallahi was deeply involved in planning the 2004 Taba and Nuweiba attacks and the 2005 Sharm el-Sheikh bombings.9 He reportedly helped prepare the car bombs used in both operations.10

Following the death of Masa’ed in September 2005, Mallahi became the JTJS top leader.11 Like his predecessor, he was forced into hiding. On May 09, 2006, Mallahi was eliminated by police in Karama.12
