Mohammed al-Metwalli (°ca 1980) is an Egyptian jihadi who was seen as a one of the key figures in the Mansoura Jihad Cells [MJC] during the second half of the 2010s.1 He served as the group’s explosives expert and bomb maker.2 Metwali was arrested on Oct. 25, 2009, as the Egyptian authorities rolled up the MJC.3

Metwalli reportedly escaped from prison in the aftermath of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.4 He was later tried in absentia and sentenced to death in March 2014.5 On Dec. 12, 2014, security forces apprehended Metwalli in the village of Khayariya, in the Dakahliya governorate.6 He was given a new trial and eventually sentenced to ten years in prison by a court on Feb. 06, 2016.7
