Rami el-Mallah (°ca 1983) is an Islamist militant from the Egyptian city of Damietta. He served as a captain in the air force but turned to Salafism in late 2010.1 Mallah wanted to fight on the side of the jihadis in Syria and resigned from the army in the summer of 2012.2 He got into contact with Haitham el-Khair, a key operative of the al-Qa’ida-linked Nassr City Cell [NCC], during his search for ways to reach the Levant.3 Khair is believed to have brought Mallah into the NCC. His role in the outfit remains unclear.

Mallah was in northeastern Cairo on Oct. 24, 2012 as the authorities rolled up the NCC.4 A Cairene court sentenced him to life imprisonment on Oct. 22, 2014.5
