Mohammed Abu Jazir was a jihadi from the Gaza Strip. At first, he was associated with the Islamic Resistance Movement [HAMAS; Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya] and the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine [PIJ; Harakat al-Jihad al-Islami fi-Filastin].1 Abu Jazir later adopted a Salafi worldview and allied himself with Abdelatif Moussa, the leader of the Soldiers of God’s Partisans [JAA; Jund Ansar Allah].2 He fled into the Sinai after HAMAS began to confront Salafi militants operating in the territory.

Abu Jazir initially linked up with unspecified local jihadis before joining the Islamic State’s Province of Sinai [DaIWS; Dawlat al-Islamiya Wilayat Sina’a] somewhere in 2015.3 He rose through the ranks to become one of the organization’s most prominent figures.4 Abu Jazir served as the head of the DaIWS in Sheikh Zuweid.5 He furthermore acted as a liaison between the group and DaIISh-affiliated jihadis in the Gaza Strip.6 The Egyptian army eliminated Abu Jazir during an operation in Sheikh Zuweid in late July 2018.7 The DaIWS acknowledged his death shortly afterwards.8
