Khaled Hamdi is a former pharmacist and senior member of the Mansoura Jihad Cells; an Islamist militant outfit active in Egypt’s Dakahliya governorate during the second half of the 2010s.1 He helped found the group and set up safehouses for its members.2 Hamdi is also known to have helped with the manufacturing of explosives and assisted in scouting potential targets.3

On Nov. 06, 2009, Hamdi was arrested by security forces after he had fled to the Egyptian capital city following the start of the authorities’ clampdown on the MJC a few weeks earlier.4 He was released from prison by the interim military regime following the 2011 Egyptian Revolution and has been at large ever since.5 Hamdi was tried in absentia and sentenced to die in March 2014 after prosecutors had reopened the case against the MJC a year earlier.6
